True about Glenn's.
Well documented on a lot of ft forums the procedure for cutting down, closing ends, quenching the spring so as not to make it brittle, and which way to run preload washers, spacers, and piston weights as well.

For the use Paul's going to make it for, it's probably worth trying, as long as it's all squared off first.
I think Glenn's spring may not have had the right procedures applied to the shortening of it, or to where the bulk of the weight was put in the spacers/piston weights/ top hat.
Your call Paul, after all, you have it in hand and can make a judgement call on the springs condition

Tbh don't know too much. It was firing so smooth it's hard to imagine there was a problem. Cocking and firing had no funny clicks or noises. I might get a new spring from young's, he has one for $38 fac. So what problems arise when you put a weaker spring in? I understand that a packed out spring could compress and stop the trigger engaging.

Well I got a new spring and put it in. Fired nice but was firing at about 13-14 ftlb. So I wanted it down around 11-12. I cut the spring, heated it up with a butane torch and flattened the last coil, quenched it in oil then smoothed off the end. I also put a sleeve on the inside of the spring on the guide, and also on the piston end around the outside of the spring. This stopped the slight twang it had. It was now firing at about 10.5 ftlb which should be really good for shooting sparrows in the supermarkets. Reduced recoil, but enough power. I did the pellet on the turret thing and it stayed on, :)
So now it is teamed up with a Nikko 4-12 x 44 and settled into the stock I was making. It's longer than the 95 stock in the front. Pretty much a copy of the 97. Wood is a type of Eucalyptus, finished with Tru Oil. I need to get a better fitting butt, but otherwise it's fit for work and off to the local Pak N Save soon. Photo is a bit blurry, just the phone camera. The cat loves to sit on the bags when i'm shooting. She will even bunt the barrel when aiming so I have to be careful.

I'm waiting on my next lump of wood, the search for just the right grain patterns and placement has begun. I've made a transparent pattern for the profile I want to cut, so I can try it on different angles and see what it might look like before I settle on a piece :)
Next one might be a weirauch , or I might have a new weirauch for sale, just waiting to see what model it is

If you are selling a weihrauch I know someone who might be keen. Actually not me, unless it's a 77 maybe, even though I shouldn't, but probably would. (Serious internal struggle)
