I've made a transparent pattern for the profile I want to cut, so I can try it on different angles and see what it might look like before I settle on a piece :)
Next one might be a weirauch , or I might have a new weirauch for sale, just waiting to see what model it is

laminate stock : Well I got a new spring and put...

    Author: Pauly5
Subject: 114
Posted: 11 Oct 2014 at 3:37pm

Well I got a new spring and put it in. Fired nice but was firing at about 13-14 ftlb. So I wanted it down around 11-12. I cut the spring, heated it up with a butane torch and flattened the last coil, quenched it in oil then smoothed off the end. I also put a sleeve on the inside of the spring on the guide, and also on the piston end around the outside of the spring. This stopped the slight twang it had. It was now firing at about 10.5 ftlb which should be really good for shooting sparrows in the supermarkets. Reduced recoil, but enough power. I did the pellet on the turret thing and it stayed on, :)
So now it is teamed up with a Nikko 4-12 x 44 and settled into the stock I was making. It's longer than the 95 stock in the front. Pretty much a copy of the 97. Wood is a type of Eucalyptus, finished with Tru Oil. I need to get a better fitting butt, but otherwise it's fit for work and off to the local Pak N Save soon. Photo is a bit blurry, just the phone camera. The cat loves to sit on the bags when i'm shooting. She will even bunt the barrel when aiming so I have to be careful.

Edited by Pauly5 - 11 Oct 2014 at 3:41pm

It was firing so smooth it's hard to imagine there was a problem. Cocking and firing had no funny clicks or noises. I might get a new spring from young's, he has one for $38 fac. So what problems arise when you put a weaker spring in? I understand that a packed out spring could compress and stop the trigger engaging.

You will find the coils will compress together and you wont be able to cock the gun by the time you space it up enough to get your FPS up. Also I think your High power gun has a heavier piston than the 12foot model so if you are planning to reduce the power you will need to replace the piston as well as the spring or you might run into problems. Brett, remember Glenn's problems with his gun siting in my workshop. He is using cut-down springs and spacers to get 12 foot pounds and look what he ended up using at the worlds.
