The HW80 I brought recently is 44 years old, shoots well, as I don't know it's history, thought I get the kit for backup if I decide to upgrade, lol, I would think it still be easier to cock compared to my hatsan 135 QE .25

I'm about to buy a second HW90 in .25 just to have the parts available, if I need them, and the option of the .25 calibre appeals in a rifle I believe someone will be able to use to shoot drainage holes in my coffin.

Famous last words
You'll be continually over budget. You haven't got a tx yet, or a hw80 yet. Then there's wood stock versions, different styles like pumpers and co2 that just lend themselves to easy mods. As i say when greet new members, welcome to the slippery slope of air guns. And you my friend have started with a running launch. 😛😛😛 |

Yep, I saw your welcome in one of my earlier posts and thought "Slippery Slope"; what is this guy talking about? And now I find myself rubbing lard all over, so I can slide more easily down that slope. ![]() I think, with what I've got now, and the purpose for which they have been invested in, that SHOULD be all I need. Besides, the guns are only part of it. Hawke Airmax 3 - 9 X plus Dampa rings, there's another $750. And then 12 tins of improper ammo to find what works, well, there's another $300 of which $50 will be actually useful. I tell ya though, I think finding the right pellet is the funnest part of it. That EUREKA!! moment where the clover leaf happens 3 or 4 times in a row and you go "Yep, sorted". Then, the ranging and testing at different ranges for hold over, hold under etc. It's a wickedly entertaining slope. Lard and all.

Hey Ashman,
Not sure how much you know about air-gunning but here's a tip about re-leading your barrel in between trials of different pellet types, when trying to find your best pellet: For example, if you’re trying three different pellets A, B and C then…
That way you’ll get true indicative groups of each type of pellet! Many people don’t do this and they go around in circles trying to determine their best pellets/slugs…. Enjoy! PS: Just tell me to shut-up if you know all this stuff! |

Just off the phone from Jacobs. they're crediting me with the amount paid and I'm upgrading to a magnum/ gas ram rated NS Diamond long range 4-16 X 50. Between the etched glass and air rated build, I think that'll do and only $240 for the upgrade, Between that and the Sports Match Dampa's, I should get 50 shots off before sending it back for another upgrade.

I had a 6 -24 X 50 on a .204 for pest control and that, for the money, was good value and good enough glass. Took a beating in the back of the ute too, which this one won't get, but .204 has about as much boot as a wet fart.

So put another 150 pellets through the lightly fettled HW90 and off front bag with crossover hold the groups tightened up a lot once I cracked a can of Kruzas H & N FTT's 14.66 that he sent with the 97. 350 mixed pellets in, including the 97's preferred Hades and JSB 15.89gn, and following the pellet testing protocol above, the last couple of groups were 1 holers at 20m of roughly 5mm.
Promising start. It's coming with me tomorrow to my campsite at the Lake and between fishing and kayaking it'll test it out to 50m and see how that goes. Another rifle that is pure bliss to shoot despite only about a pound of air let out and still fairly stout to cock at roughly 40lb. I've just ordered a pump, gauge and Schrader valve connector so next step will be ladder pressure testing, whenever that kit arrives. Quite noisy, as it has open sights, not moderator like my others and they'll be ripping at about 750-800fps at that grain weight. Very distinctive operating sound. No twang, obviously, and way less operating noise than the Magnum Gamos by far, plus the recoil is vastly different and far softer, plus linear without the flip and clank. Couldn't get the .25 tonight so picking it up in the morning on the way to Arthurs Pass. I'll try a few rounds with that with the open sights once I've adjusted the barrel tensioner bolts and the stock screws are all tested. Hopefully I'll get to see what it's like shooting rising trout
