I've ordered some parts from Tin Bum Tuning and tried to contact him to organise some others for the HW90.  Since the money was taken from my account, the only communication I've had from them was an AI proforma stating they had received my order.
I've sent 5 emails, Pm's through messenger and contact through both FB and his You tube accounts and there has been no response at all.
Does anyone here know what the deal is, or have I been ripped off?
I thought he seemed pretty genuine and I know, as my HW97 has one of his tuning kits in it that he at least used to be in business, but, even if he is, though his products are good quality, his communication standards are utter sh*te.
Any ideas??

Hi Ashman,

I'll ask a friend of mine who has dealt with TBT many times.

Meanwhile, it may be that he's on holiday in UK at this time of year?  It's pretty hot over there currently - he may cooling off somewhere? Smile

He is at  Le Mans for the next two weeks  so may be slower than normal to respond. I've found Nick very responsive when I have contacted him.

Ok I see.
I didn't realize he is a one man band.

Not sure how TbT is set up - I know Nick lives in the south of France and I know him and his wife run the business which is still UK based.  There is at least once person based in the UK who will fit kits for UK based clients if requested and also tunes Weihrauch trigger units.

I just got a pellet sizer and bum slide (till i can afford a syringe of krytox gpl 215 dry lube im going to try) off him and there was a ph number to contact sales, if you need too. 0800 77 20 177. Assuming its in uk.
When got spring kit, arrived way quicker than i thought and never had any contact with him.

Thanks.  I'll just wait.  It's not urgent. Getting the HW90 stuff from him would be a plus if he can package it with the HW97 stuff.

Hi Ashman,

Looks like Ec has solved the problem (above)?  But in case you don't have it already, my friend tells me the best email to get hold of Nick at Tin Bum is  mailto:tinbumtuning@gmail.com?subject=tinbumtuning@gmail.com" rel="nofollow - mailto:tinbumtuning@gmail.com

Hope that helps.... Smile

That is the email address I've used to ask a couple of questions about my Webley Mark 1 pistol and about getting a kit for my Diana - he has always responded quickly - though I do know he is on holiday at present and may be slower than normal to respond.

Just heard from them with a tracking number for the package so it's on its way however they didn't answer any of my subsequent emails regarding other stuff they have that I would like to purchase so I'll be paying 2 lots of postage.
On the plus side, got the scope mounts and recoil rail sorted on the HW90, adjusted the barrel tensioners and "Pfffttted" the gas valve to reduce the harder than my Gamo Magnum cocking pressure  plus lubricated a few bits and pieces and shot some groups. It's starting to show some promise and with the trigger, which is a dandy, adjusted for a little more let off pressure, I'm starting to get the hang of it.  Still plenty of shunt required for the cocking pressure so I may "Pffftttt" it ever so slightly again.  Nicks videos suggest a "Pfffttt" is about a pound but I have to be careful as I don't have a pump and a gauge (something I wanted to get from Tinbum, along with the required Schrader valve extension to put more in yet, so gently gently.
Fettling these things is fun.
Some Ok groups, but nothing like the 97 YET.

Hi Ashman , how long did you have to wait for an email with the tracking number, I ordered the full power HW80 kit on the 3rd June, waiting for the tracking number

About a week.  Holiday time.
Holy sh*te, how much more power do you want out of one of those?  You'll need a cross bow crank to cock it.

The HW80 I brought recently is 44 years old, shoots well, as I don't know it's history, thought I get the kit for backup if I decide to upgrade, lol, I would think it still be easier to cock compared to my hatsan 135 QE .25

I'm about to buy a second HW90 in .25 just to have the parts available, if I need them, and the option of the .25 calibre appeals in a rifle I believe someone will be able to use to shoot drainage holes in my coffin.

Good question.   I'm way over budget.
I guess I see the WH's as lifetime weapons, whereas  Gamo, as a brand, may not be.
The Gamo .22 is a an agricultural grade food gatherer  par excellence, in that it's accurate enough to 50m and hits HHHHAAARRRRDDDDD. At both ends   And I have no care for it other than maintenance and keeping it fit for purpose, so it's very low maintenance, at the moment.
The Gamo .25 Magnum I bought for interoperability, same as with the second HW90 in .25, where all the parts are interchangeable, particularly given the HW's are only 3 serial numbers separated.  They were almost side by side on the production line 26 years ago, both unused, still in the box, with all documentation including the Weihrauch trigger hanger, foresight interchangeable modules and owners manual, in the original box.   Not a coincidence; same deceased estate, so I suspect they were ordered together.
The real problem is I now know what quality feels like and shoots like.  That's your bloody fault.  Thank you.
If the Gamo's had either the Rekord or the Elite trigger, that would represent a quandry.  But they sure as sh*t don't.  The Gamo .22's trigger is at the right weight, but it's still touch and go, at different times, a little. At others, quite a bit.   The .25 I've kept more weight because it bucks a bit.
I'm picking up the .25 90 tonight.   Given the difference between the Gamo .22 and the .22 90, despite being roughly the same velocity, I'm hoping the HW won't be nearly as harsh as the car boot strut Gamo.
Anybody got a scope for sale that would suit?  Given it's a .25, something in the 3 - 9 range would be good as it's not going to be a target rifle.  I'll use Sports Match Dampa mounts, whatever scope gos on it.

Famous last words
You'll be continually over budget. You haven't got a tx yet, or a hw80 yet. Then there's wood stock versions, different styles like pumpers and co2 that just lend themselves to easy mods.
As i say when greet new members, welcome to the slippery slope of air guns.
And you my friend have started with a running launch. 😛😛😛

Yep, I saw your welcome in one of my earlier posts and thought "Slippery Slope"; what is this guy talking about?
And now I find myself rubbing lard all over, so I can slide more easily down that slope.Tongue
I think, with what I've got now, and the purpose for which they have been invested in, that SHOULD be all I need.
Besides, the guns are only part of it.
Hawke Airmax 3 - 9 X plus Dampa rings, there's another $750.  And then 12 tins of improper ammo to find what works, well, there's another $300 of which $50 will be actually useful.
I tell ya though, I think finding the right pellet is the funnest part of it.  That EUREKA!! moment where the clover leaf happens 3  or 4 times in a row and you go "Yep, sorted".  Then, the ranging and testing at different ranges for hold over, hold under etc.
It's a wickedly entertaining slope.  Lard and all.

Hey Ashman,

Not sure how much you know about air-gunning but here's a tip about re-leading your barrel in between trials of different pellet types, when trying to find your best pellet:

For example, if you’re trying three different pellets A, B and C then…

  • Clean your barrel first
  • Trial pellet A with 10-20 pellets and check group size
  • Shoot (waste) pellet B to re-lead the barrel.  Shoot about 10 through the barrel - ignore group size.
  • Trial pellet B with 10-20 pellets and check group size
  • Shoot (waste) pellet C to re-lead the barrel.  Shoot about 10 through the barrel - ignore group size.
  • Trial pellet C with 10-20 pellets and check group size

That way you’ll get true indicative groups of each type of pellet!  Many people don’t do this and they go around in circles trying to determine their best pellets/slugs….

Enjoy!  Smile

PS:   Just tell me to shut-up if you know all this stuff!

Thanks and yes, I was made aware of that by Kruza.

I've got 5 different .25 pellets to try, mostly by H & N and JSB, so I'll be going through that exact process.  I have a scope I can use on that but I'm also waiting for the go ahead to be credited by the supplier for the NS that shat itself so I can put the initial cost of that in to something a whole lot better.

I've also got 9 different pellets from several makers for the .22 and I'll be testing them all tomorrow too, again following the same protocol.   In reality, it's the .22 I'm most excited about.

Just off the phone from Jacobs.  they're crediting me with the amount paid and I'm upgrading to a magnum/ gas ram rated NS Diamond long range 4-16 X 50.
Between the etched glass and air rated build, I think that'll do and only $240 for the upgrade,  Between that and the Sports Match Dampa's, I should get 50 shots off before sending it back for another upgrade.Tongue

I had a 6 -24 X 50 on a .204 for pest control and that, for the money, was good value and good enough glass.  Took a beating in the back of the ute too, which this one won't get, but .204 has about as much boot as a wet fart.

So put another 150 pellets through the lightly fettled HW90 and off front bag with crossover hold the groups tightened up a lot once I cracked a can of Kruzas H & N FTT's 14.66 that he sent with the 97.  350 mixed pellets in, including the 97's preferred Hades and JSB 15.89gn, and following the pellet testing protocol above, the last couple of groups were 1 holers at 20m of roughly 5mm.
Promising start.
It's coming with me tomorrow to my campsite at the Lake and between fishing and kayaking it'll test it out to 50m and see how that goes.
Another rifle that is pure bliss to shoot despite only about a pound of air let out and still fairly stout to cock at roughly 40lb.
I've just ordered a pump, gauge and Schrader valve connector so next step will be ladder pressure testing, whenever that kit arrives.
Quite noisy, as it has open sights, not moderator like my others and they'll be ripping at about 750-800fps at that grain weight.
Very distinctive operating sound.  No twang, obviously, and way less operating noise than the Magnum Gamos by far, plus the recoil is vastly different and far softer, plus linear without the flip and clank. Couldn't get the .25 tonight so picking it up in the morning on the way to Arthurs Pass.  I'll try a few rounds with that with the open sights once I've adjusted the barrel tensioner bolts and the stock screws are all tested.  Hopefully I'll get to see what it's like shooting rising troutTongue

Picked up the .25 HW90 on the way to the camp.
Put about 30 pellets through it with the rifle, obviously, judging by the cocking effort required, at or over the max.  I can do 15 pull ups in the first set and 20 odd arm curls with 15kg so I'm no slouch strength wise, but that thing was a way bigger workout than the .22 was.   Took out the protector screw, gave the valve the gentlest nudge.... and the Schrader valve got stuck open and it emptied out and died in my hands.
Got back to base and re pressurised it with a BBB 400 PSI pump and a Rockshox Monarch Schrader valve purchased from Chain Reaction Bicycles here in Christchurch and just put 50 pellets through it at 19 Bar before the rugby started.
H & N Barracuda at 30 odd gn and Barracuda Hunter Extreme at 28 odd were a bit loose at that pressure but the JSB King Diabolo at 25gn produced 2 consecutive 1 hole groups at 20m so I'll work with them when the new scope arrives on Monday as the no AO 4 -12 X 44 is not all that suitable whereas the Diamond will be, I hope.
More to come, but the .25, as is the .22,  is sublime to shoot.  The Elite trigger, well, I'm no air expert, as you all know, but I've had some mighty fine centre fire and rim fire triggers, both worked and stock and that Elite unit is almost Rekord breaking.  Almost.
Thud, no twang, of course, and the recoil is straight back and at 19.5 bar, very manageable.
More to come once the scope arrives.
Anyone got any Sports Match Dampa 11mm dovetail 30mm dia rings for sale?
