My wife just said "we buy marine ply in work". She works for a company that makes kitchen benchtops. Her boss is also into guns so he'll know if what they use is suitable. I'll ask and also get a price.

Sorry, only just seen this. I'm in Otorohanga but I travel all over the country for work and as I'm the boss I set my own agenda |

They look good. Is that price in nzd? Not cheap, but yeah not too bad if you embark on a project.

Hey Pauly, I was looking around myself.. Most mentions i see from the UK custom guys are Finnish laminates. So I found these guys: https://www.lamnia.com/en/sc/178/hunting-and-shooting/laminated-blanks Ready to go and made for the job... Not to mention pretty colours. Pricey, yes, but I imagine the finish would be nice and if you are doing the work yourself, it would end up not too bad.... |

Found some in Wellington at a timber specialist on Thornton Quay Nova.
$165 a sheet for 18 mm 2.4 x 1.2. Quite pricey. I would need three layers glued together to get the right thickness, so I will definitely get three maybe four blanks. Might be able to sell a couple if anyone is game to make a Stock? I have looked into getting a 36mm spade router bit for inletting the HW97 action, and there's a 35mm which could work. It will be better than multiple passess with a small bit. Anyway, this might turn onto a build if I can keep the motivation up. |

I actually thought about you nova. Of course I don't need a lot and was going to try a couple of the boat builders listed in Wellington for possible off cuts. I know it's pricey, but easier to work with and lighter than solid timber.
Unless there's someone local that likes to work on boats whose garage I can raid??? |
