has anyone here used Infrared cameras and spotlights to hunt possums? and if so how successful is it? does it reflect the eyes back like a normal spotlight? also the screen size, most gear is hooked up to the rifle scope with a small screen, I know when im spotting with my LED P14 it will light the hole tree up so i can see fairly quickly if there is something of interest in the tree. With the Infrared setup the camera has to have a long focal length lens for it to work through the scope and this cuts down your filed of view so i was just wondering how this would effect things.

I use a home made add on kit.  IR torch mounts to scope as does the screen to view the footage from the camera fitted to the scope. These things pick up eye shine of animals at over 150m through the scope with the ir light.  Just like a normal torch picks up a reflector in the distance. I've made a hand held spotter that uses a lower powered security camera lens instead of a scope for a lens.  I use to to scan a field or tree to check for eye shine before switching to the rifle to get a better look and shot. Here's some footage filmed through the scope using my home made kit. IR and night vision is great.  You can stalk and shoot in complete darkness and animals don't spook or shy from any light.  I am now an absolute NV convert.  99% of my shooting is done after dark - bring on the change in day lights savings!

The add stated that with a good scope shots could be taken out to 250 yards ,seems these torches have been tested in aussie on pest control on foxes and roos, however its just a add and talk is cheap, after testing I will KNOW for sure how SUITABLE it is .
