Hi guys I am new on here and reasonable new to air rifles but have spent the last 20 years hunting and using "proper guns" I just thought I'd Post this up as I see online the Beeman vaporizer hasn't really got very good reviews and I actually disagree with most of them I have found that it is a reasonable gun I have only put about 60 shots through it so far so it's far from run in but at 20 yards with the factory scope I am getting under an inch groups and have even managed to get the same hole a few times and actually think it's grouping could be better if I was slightly more experience with air ( I've knocked over a deer at 860mtrs with my Tika t3 7mm rem mag) so I can shoot lol but springers are certainly a different kettle of fish anyway other than it being a bit heavy and not overly easy to cock I am impressed with the early results I did have a crossman mag fire ultra and I hated it over 500 shots before any group could be thought about also the mag was sh*ty plastic and really quite vonrable to break I went through 2 of them that's why I went back to a single shot I am sure there will be others out there who disagree but I would love to hear from anyone in nz who has one and what you think I've tried 6 different pellets and the h&n barracuda in 21.14gr seems to be the go so far although I think that could change when I start to shoot out a little bit further has anyone else got a vaporizer and using different pellets at longer distance and what is your recommendation for distance limitations for rabbits and the odd possum (I used to use a.223 for them lol 😂

Welcome to the world of airguns.
Do you know what speed the pellets are going at? I am guessing it's a higher power springer as it seems to like the 18 grn H&N. You should get hold of some JSB or Air Arms 18.13 grn pellets to try. I reckon that as a rule of thumb if you can consistently hit a bottle cap at 25 - 30 m then your gun is going well. It looks like your gun will have plenty of power to drop rabbits at 50 + m. One thing important for shooting recoiling airguns is to not hold them tight or rest them on a hard surface and to hold them the same way each time as the recoil of the spring/ram releasing starts before the pellet leaves the barrel, so you want it to react the same way each time. Looks like it isn't too pellet fussy with some of those groups looking fairly good.

Hi thank you for your help if you believe the box it's meant to send lead down range at 950fps but I don't have any way of actually measure it myself I'm pretty happy with the groups I am getting atm as I know there is a run in period I'm a real accuracy nut tbh I've been watching the artillery hold on YouTube and have been trying to use that it will take a bit of time to get it right as you can imagine going from a 7mm rem mag which would dislocate a shoulder if not held tight relaxing my hold isn't quite natural yet

I would try and stick with heavier pellets for sure then, but of course if a pellet is accurate you can't argue with that.
I can imagine the change in shooting technique, quite counter intuitive.

![]() ![]() ![]() This can was full of water at 25 yards I've never seen a air rifle make a exit hole so deviating it's actually quite a force to go through water and exit like that |

There are ph apps like strelock pro that if you put your info in correctly can give you a pretty good fps from pellet drop over two set points if your looking for an alternative to a chrono.
But a chrono is recommended for accurate measurements. |

Thank you I'll look into that atm I can only get to 25 yards safely when I get to take some longer shots I will measure the drop etc to work that out I would be surprised if it is close to the 950fps that they claim but I am not overly worried with the fps I would take accuracy over higher fps any day but I am pretty sure that it's got plenty enough of a whack to knock a rabbit over from what I have seen so far anyway but of course shot placement is really the key I took a goat down at 350mtrs a few years ago with my 7mm and it died so quickly it still had the grass in it's mouth that it was eating I hit it's spine just behind the front shoulder that was the cleanest kill I have achieved of anything I have shot but in saying that every animal I have shot with a rifle has always gone down with 1 shot

You dont need it at that sort of power. Air guns will do you well if your an accuracy nut. Thats what they are about. It dont have anywhere near that fps and drop rabbits quite happily. My biggest surprise was that 14.66gr when run over the chrono and thru chair gun out preformed the 16gr i switched to for fpe and drop. 18gr blitzed both.
Guess the 16gr added enough weight to affect fps but not enough to to improve the fpe to any great degree. Was bit of an eye opener. Theres pics on the site of a goat shot with a springer and couple of wallaby shot with air rifle as well. |
