What the f is wrong with gun shops, when it comes to air rifle stuff. If they arn't willing to learn about them they shouldn't sell em.
Latest annoying thing (the list is getting longer everytime I go to one)
In Gun City as Crafties didn't have ftt and only other place is Gc.
So anyway he's on ph hear word pellet and gamo ears prick up. I then listen to him explain that you can't by alloy or copper pellets as the volicity is to high for nz. When he got off ph asked what issue was and he said person was worried about lead poison and had read you could get alloy or copper pellets.
I then pointed out that he had three types of alloy pellets on the shelf.
Yet again I pointed out that they need to stop covering the factory label which has the head size on it with there sticker. He responded they are all one size to which I replied fft come in 3 sizes and it was on the factory sticker. He then pulled their sticker off and found I was right. So I told him I needed 5.52mm (which I've never seen in there) watched him pull off half a dozen labels and said its OK ill sort some out from 5.53can as they don't all measure even.
One shop,H&F, had stoeger 1 tin old stock. Said I'd take it pleased to find at least one tin. Watched the tin travel about 4 foot through the air to land on counter as she threw them from the rack to counter. I near screamed the only tin I found. She then flipped the can right way up by tossing it into the air and it land with a thump.
If it wasn't the only tin I could find I would have ripped onto her.
Honestly what f is wrong with gun shop and air rifle supplies.

The large chain stores are the worst. H&F, GC. Though H&F Botany in Auckland I have found ok as the guy in charge of the firearms is an airgun shooter.

The staff are just workers, just there for a job and get paid to make sales, they are not airgun specialists at all.
You should have asked if she would have thrown a pack of bullets the same.
Ive seen many times where they will demonstrate an airgun by shooting into the carpet - them saying the carpet gives resistence so doesnt damage the gun like dry firing. Rubbish.
The gun i saw also had an air stripper so the air was free to go out the sides with no resistance - it could have a blown seal even before it leaves the store.

The best thing you can do is take business elsewhere - youngs airguns will send parcels, and some one man opperated stores will have good airgun pellet stocks too - find a good local store and request they get stock in for you if you have a favourite.

I might just have to get a debit card. I try to avoid them and credit cards. Theres not much option here. Two stores left and I've found nothing about air guns on them. I'm starting to wish I was in a major city for the choice. But your right, I'll check out the last two next time in town. Ones a gun Smith so might have a yak with him.

i must be lucky then coz my local shop carries a huge range of pellets,he just scored me 5000 of the out of production locally made 12gr 22cal winchester pellets which i like for co2 pistols, pellets are no longer made in nz which now means killwell and daisy pellets wont be available once local stocks run out either, pity coz i liked the daisy 177 pellets for co2 pistols as well, the local h/f store only carrys one two brands of pellets and many of them either,so you right the bigger stores bloody hopeless for anything airgun related now and none their staff no anything bout airguns either now and dont seem to care either.

MIKE... We have missed you! You all ok?

I have had the same experiences with the large chain stores. I saw a staff member in GC Christchurch dry fire a air rifle once to show a customer.... I nearly fainted! Also eavesdropped on their sales guys trying to sell airguns makes me sick.

you would think that the companys that sell these guns to the shops would have some form of training for shop staff in their own interests eh,would save lot warrenty claims for broken springs and damage gas pistons eh,its allmost a certainty that quite few guns are allready damaged before they evan leave the shop caused by shop staff not knowing what they are doing thats not good busseness eh!!personally i wouldnt accept a new spring or gas ram rifle if it didnt come to me in a sealed box thats never been opened.
 cheers mike

Exactly, also the fact that they can't even back up with spare parts is another thing too

They eventual offered me a new mag originally when mine had issues.I decided not too.
They replaced the barrel, even though it was off a return that had mag issues, prior to gamo sending them spare mag parts. Truthfully I'm rather impressed with Vaughans who have put up with a lot of photos and emails from me. (I'd have blocked me) but I had to go to importer. H&F wernt allowed to get me parts as its a gun City only gun. Gun City was useless recommended young's when I asked them to get seals.
If ya have issues with a gamo I'd recommend going strait to vaughans upper hut (Web site)

I'm currently dealing with an issue at H&F on behalf of a good female friend who runs a remote station.

In summary, their supply chain product support processes - for an expensive item they sold to her in 2020 - are useless! They can't fix the problem, nor can their suppliers!!! Apparently the part that needs replacing is not longer available (after 20 months!!!!!!). Disapprove

Pathetic!

I would never trust them to support any item going forward. Not only are they overpriced, they're also unhelpful. I've had to go to senior H&F management to get any sort of assistance and even that has failed! I'm done with them!

If you want trouble free pellet or air rifle supplies, go to David Kay at Airguns NZ (https://airgunsnz.co.nz/). Or Ron Young of course! They're always reliable, knowledgeable and products arrive by courier, hassle free! Both are a delight to work with.....

Also, I went into H&F in Palmerston North recently and asked a guy behind the counter: "Do you have a .177 cleaning rod and kit"?

His reply: "What's that?" Wacko

Jeeeez............!
