The HW80 I brought recently is 44 years old, shoots well, as I don't know it's history, thought I get the kit for backup if I decide to upgrade, lol, I would think it still be easier to cock compared to my hatsan 135 QE .25

I'm about to buy a second HW90 in .25 just to have the parts available, if I need them, and the option of the .25 calibre appeals in a rifle I believe someone will be able to use to shoot drainage holes in my coffin.

Good question.   I'm way over budget.
I guess I see the WH's as lifetime weapons, whereas  Gamo, as a brand, may not be.
The Gamo .22 is a an agricultural grade food gatherer  par excellence, in that it's accurate enough to 50m and hits HHHHAAARRRRDDDDD. At both ends   And I have no care for it other than maintenance and keeping it fit for purpose, so it's very low maintenance, at the moment.
The Gamo .25 Magnum I bought for interoperability, same as with the second HW90 in .25, where all the parts are interchangeable, particularly given the HW's are only 3 serial numbers separated.  They were almost side by side on the production line 26 years ago, both unused, still in the box, with all documentation including the Weihrauch trigger hanger, foresight interchangeable modules and owners manual, in the original box.   Not a coincidence; same deceased estate, so I suspect they were ordered together.
The real problem is I now know what quality feels like and shoots like.  That's your bloody fault.  Thank you.
If the Gamo's had either the Rekord or the Elite trigger, that would represent a quandry.  But they sure as sh*t don't.  The Gamo .22's trigger is at the right weight, but it's still touch and go, at different times, a little. At others, quite a bit.   The .25 I've kept more weight because it bucks a bit.
I'm picking up the .25 90 tonight.   Given the difference between the Gamo .22 and the .22 90, despite being roughly the same velocity, I'm hoping the HW won't be nearly as harsh as the car boot strut Gamo.
Anybody got a scope for sale that would suit?  Given it's a .25, something in the 3 - 9 range would be good as it's not going to be a target rifle.  I'll use Sports Match Dampa mounts, whatever scope gos on it.

Famous last words
You'll be continually over budget. You haven't got a tx yet, or a hw80 yet. Then there's wood stock versions, different styles like pumpers and co2 that just lend themselves to easy mods.
As i say when greet new members, welcome to the slippery slope of air guns.
And you my friend have started with a running launch. 😛😛😛

Yep, I saw your welcome in one of my earlier posts and thought "Slippery Slope"; what is this guy talking about?
And now I find myself rubbing lard all over, so I can slide more easily down that slope.Tongue
I think, with what I've got now, and the purpose for which they have been invested in, that SHOULD be all I need.
Besides, the guns are only part of it.
Hawke Airmax 3 - 9 X plus Dampa rings, there's another $750.  And then 12 tins of improper ammo to find what works, well, there's another $300 of which $50 will be actually useful.
I tell ya though, I think finding the right pellet is the funnest part of it.  That EUREKA!! moment where the clover leaf happens 3  or 4 times in a row and you go "Yep, sorted".  Then, the ranging and testing at different ranges for hold over, hold under etc.
It's a wickedly entertaining slope.  Lard and all.

Hey Ashman,

Not sure how much you know about air-gunning but here's a tip about re-leading your barrel in between trials of different pellet types, when trying to find your best pellet:

For example, if you’re trying three different pellets A, B and C then…

  • Clean your barrel first
  • Trial pellet A with 10-20 pellets and check group size
  • Shoot (waste) pellet B to re-lead the barrel.  Shoot about 10 through the barrel - ignore group size.
  • Trial pellet B with 10-20 pellets and check group size
  • Shoot (waste) pellet C to re-lead the barrel.  Shoot about 10 through the barrel - ignore group size.
  • Trial pellet C with 10-20 pellets and check group size

That way you’ll get true indicative groups of each type of pellet!  Many people don’t do this and they go around in circles trying to determine their best pellets/slugs….

Enjoy!  Smile

PS:   Just tell me to shut-up if you know all this stuff!

Thanks and yes, I was made aware of that by Kruza.

I've got 5 different .25 pellets to try, mostly by H & N and JSB, so I'll be going through that exact process.  I have a scope I can use on that but I'm also waiting for the go ahead to be credited by the supplier for the NS that shat itself so I can put the initial cost of that in to something a whole lot better.

I've also got 9 different pellets from several makers for the .22 and I'll be testing them all tomorrow too, again following the same protocol.   In reality, it's the .22 I'm most excited about.

Just off the phone from Jacobs.  they're crediting me with the amount paid and I'm upgrading to a magnum/ gas ram rated NS Diamond long range 4-16 X 50.
Between the etched glass and air rated build, I think that'll do and only $240 for the upgrade,  Between that and the Sports Match Dampa's, I should get 50 shots off before sending it back for another upgrade.Tongue

I had a 6 -24 X 50 on a .204 for pest control and that, for the money, was good value and good enough glass.  Took a beating in the back of the ute too, which this one won't get, but .204 has about as much boot as a wet fart.
