While new it was identified as an early build so several test shots then preventative check of internal screws which were cleaned and thread lock applied to avoid known issues.
Sounds and feels good, so pleasant to shoot, I will run some comparisons with .177 once I have a couple hundred pellets through.
Early Chronograph Test
Fitted with ZeroTech 3-12x44 23 yards 13.7mm OD. Initial Test Group then some hold over for the bull. |

Eight screws, small key and polymer bush removes the add-ons to reveal a basic gas ram break barrel.
The large black sleeves each end of the chamber slide inside the aluminum tube. The sliding components have 0.5mm clearance. The mechanism moves 20mm during each operation. The moving parts of the anti-recoil are not lubricated.

I recommend checking the reviews by The Airgun Detective which identify some early manufacturing problems. If purchasing it is important to confirm yours is an updated model or improvements were undertaken. The Omnia ZRS carbine has undergone some updates.
These studs have currently been replaced. It requires the following spare parts: Ref. 20130103 Ref. 20130113 x 2 units ![]() |

Front screws 20130113 and rear screw 201301001 have been known to come loose, if they contact the aluminum housing they will cause damage and possibly seize preventing disassembly. An earlier issue with my .177 ZRS was resolved under warranty but I am not taking any chances with the 22.
Along with thread locker I have deformed the plastic bush with a solder gun so they cannot unscrew inadvertently. Rear Front |

Can the ZRS be more than a backyard plinker. Front alone was not very successful. Tape applied to both front and rear seems to improve accuracy especially when using scope. Removed the obvious free-play but still slides freely. Checked for wear after 100 shots and no issues. |

Still working on the .22
The ZRS .177 was also modified and tested indoors. Bench-rest 25 yards with 3-12x40 scope. Four shot 23.16mm OD group. It is more consistent but there are better results elsewhere. I was hoping for 12mm. |

The .22 ZRS tends to produce fliers if used repeatedly. (10 - 20 shots) It is well past 200 shots so past normal break-in period. Chronograph testing has shown a deviation of 13 when hot. The compression parts will be dismantled for inspection next.

The unit has a very tight breech which needed to be addressed. Many common pellet types were not usable even with a probe. While experimenting with different pellets the breech was reopened for inspection with pellets inserted. A number of them seemed to suffer damage when loading, the breech block surfaces were smoothed and the loading port eased.
The Chronograph results are greatly improved and I will reassess at the targets.

Spending time with the ZRS I can appreciate what Norica were trying to achieve.
I have made minor but essential changes to ensure reliability. I have reduced clearances on the sliding parts and chosen to lubricate against potential wear. The now altered action has a light spring assisted return resulting in a low felt recoil but the optics remain protected. I expect to run up a high shot count in the thousands at the target range.
The rifle accuracy remains the same as new but surprise "fliers" have been eliminated. .22 ZRS 23 yards, bench rest with front bag, wind gusts from the right POA right hand number 8, JTS Dead center 18.1 grain pellets. Zero Tech Vengeance 4-12x40 SF scope. 13.14mm OD 5 shot group. |

Overview Pleasure to use, the lack of felt recoil is brilliant. The unusual stock design works surprisingly well especially standing. Your optical devices will remain safe mounted on the zero recoil system. Value: NZ$900 makes it comparable to a Weihrauch HW50. Some offset exists as it is not necessary to purchase special mounts for optics saving $100- $150. The HW50 will be better finished, more reliable with similar or better accuracy. However if like me you value the different look and elimination of recoil the ZRS maybe for you. Quality: Finish of the breech and assembly of internals needs improving at the factory. Posible changes: Adjustable butt piece. Essential: Ensure you will receive the updated version.
