Inspired by Nunga's 110m shot, I'm setting up a month long challange for who can knock a can over at the furthest distance.
(Nunga your old shot doesn't count unless you pop it again)
I'm relying on honesty if you can only photo it.
I'll put a hundy bucks worth of product up at end of month which can be from any nz shop.
I'll pay for every thing on line and you can go to shop and pick it up. Nz residents only sorry. I'm not a rich person so please keep it honest.
As I'm genuinely interested on how far a air rifle pellet can reach from a springer and hit a target I'm going to make it rested, which should also even it out a bit.
So if your keen get shooting and post it here.
Be keen on any missed shots leading up to a hit as well, just as interested in the hit ratio at distance too.

Friggin wind. It's a overcast showery day here. I've got a 15km gusty wind coming in from behind, left hand side at about 7 oclock if you have the 12 oclock facing the target. That goes for 80m approx then it changes to about 3 oclock for the last 37m when the trees end. Sux.
Anyway at 117m I'm just trying to find where my point of aim is, as I've only sighted in to 80m.
Of 15 shots three have hit roughly in line vertically. (I have a opened out cardboard box behind it, none have hit that)
The closest shot has been the batten when I caught a wind break.
The pellet in the post is at the same aim point, but the wind gusted up as I fired. That was an interesting result in itself. To the right of the post is a light graze from an early pellet which is what I used to figure out roughly how many more mildots I needed to lift. But honestly the wind is really stuffing me up.
Still got a 6pack of gissy gold to shoot when wind is gone.

Oh the wind change is because the wind is forced into a differnt direction by the wool and implent shed, then down the trees, there's a container and trees the other side which is blocking the wind it ends about that big wood pile I've shown before in pics. Then it hits the cross wind.

I was having the same problem with the wind at my end as well..it was a challenging day. tho i have some video footage, oh and by the way. That can i shot was a cody 8% can.. the thin cans. not the standard size beer can.

On today's shoot I built a custom stand and back board to house everything.

So i have successfully landed 2x shots at 100 meters today (they were bottles not cans)... and my son stepped it up a bit at the end and decided that only a hit on the bottle top counted as a knock down so i landed two of those as well.

Youtube vid should be posted later tonight.

Sweet so hundy to beat at moment.
Bottle be as thin as a can. Neck way thinner.
I'll use a 350ml v can once I get on target with the beer can. That will be about the same thickness as what you used.
Think I'll skip the bottle top, don't want glass to clean up and at 117m don't think my shooting would be good enough for a neck shot at moment. With a can there is more chance of some one pushing it out further. Which is what it's all about.
So 100m is the distance to top so far.
As Nunga had already stated he was doing a 100m today before I came up with this and he holds a 2 place from 2014 I'm happy to take his word on it for this time. Any objections?
Pics or video for everyone from now on I guess.

That is the most dramatic filming of the death of a bottle I have ever seen!!
Never would have picked that for a tx.
You do the stock as well? Be keen to see a review on what you did to it internally and externally.
Nice shooting by the way your a 100 bucks up for now. 👍

So ive done some research and the official world record for a .177 air rifle is 150 yards (open sights). that is to hit a 6" round target. This was done with a PCP and not a springer

Your kidding! I thought a pcp would go further let's see if we can beat it.
Righto here's the pics.
Hw97 black line. Totally stock, I haven't adjusted anything at all on it since I got it including the trigger.
Pellet h&n field. Target trophy 14.66gr.
Wind coming from left gental breeze. Reasonably consistent.
Scope. 14x zoom set at Max elevation plus 9 mildot hold over (scope is not shimmed)
Windage 2.5 mildots.
Hand on bag, rear no support.
Carboard for sighting about 15 shots to get happy with drop and sort windage. 5 shots at can, 2 hit batten, 2 I'm assuming went to the left as no impact marks to right.
5th shot hit.
Measured against a v can 5mm approx left of a edge hit of v can.
For now this the distance to beat.
I'll do the v can later just to see if I can (no pun intended) but I set it at a beer can so that's the standard.
What has supprised me is it blew through it.
Oh the sytong distance reads 3m more than the golf range finder. (which I only found out when I couldn't get a photo through golf range finder and switched to see if could use sytong scope)
I'm going with the sytong as it measures in point of a meter as well and is most likely the most accurate.
