I'd go duck sux (never liked it) pidgeon is delish, quail very white, clean meat, pheasant the top. Rabbit is ahh, hare really is a good meat.
Pukeko in a crock pot for about 5 hours sorts the meat, I wouldn't drop it as a food source, but never use it as one. |

Duck is good. Pigeon is not bad either, just a pity there is so little meat on the breasts for the amount of work you need to put in to get it.
Whats your take on pukeos? I only tried it for the first time a few months ago, but I was really impressed with it and would happily eat it regularly if they were not protected with a closed season. Rabbit is good, and there is no shortage of rabbit around here. I could supply my family with an endless supply of fresh rabbit meat, but after my 12th experimental rabbit dish I was banned from bringing any more rabbit into the house... Hare is flippen delicious! I came up with a Hare and Coke recipe in the slow cooker, served with some mash... excellent! We should ask Nunga to start a "Recipes" section where people can post their "Game and Pest Recipes" |

NB Pigeons aren't bad but Doves have so little meat and so little flavour I don't bother any more except they seem to be breeding up and displacing some native birds around here so i night have to start nailing the pests. Maybe my cat will eat them.

The Goddess of the Hunt Mod 52.
Doesn't look as though it's had much use - or been treated well apart from abuse the fool trying to fold up the lever without releasing the anti-amputation rachet. That turned an auction bargain into a OK buy but that's sight unseen auctions for ya. As an aside, I ended up with 3 very old hammer shotguns when I only wanted one - made two what i thought were silly low bids on two others and bingo, 2 more for total $120. Having said that, while I love those old hammer guns I think the Cops get angry if you display them which was my plan; a hammer gun over my Rei Hamon Huia print as it was guns exactly like these, along with wealthy dead bird collectors, that resulted in the extinction of the huias. Oh, and apparently they were damn tasty as well, which may have not have helped... I'm a bit of a fan of eating wild birds I guess from lots of game bird shooting with the Old Man and would love to do some swaps for some Californian quail or roosters. Would love to try a fat Kereru but not a good idea but I really enjoyed Weka in the Chathams where they are fair game in pest numbers. Weka taste a lot like Paradise Duck - Mmmmmmm. Frankly I'd also be keen on a few bunnies - the numbers you experts shoot mean a freezer full of back steaks and back legs would do me...many years ago when dinging the bonnets of MPI Patrol vehicles by Wellington bunny shooting sitting on the bonnet at night we ate a lot of rabbit and I really like it. My Nurse flatmates didn't like the idea of eating Watership Downs stars but once those legs were casseroled up with a slice of bacon around each one them they into them like a flock of seagulls out side Fish & Chip shop. |

There is no formula for tight groups, best will be to try both barrels with as many makes, weights and shapes of pellets as you can. Each barrel will have its own preference and eventually you'll find a pellet that each likes.
Everything will look good at 10y. By 20y you'll start seeing the cheepies and the better quality ones, at 30y you'll separate the men from the boys, and at 40y you'll find "the One" for that rifle/barrel/calibre. Same with the D52. Post us some pics of your D52, or maybe start a thread under the "Reviews" section. Edited by RangerPete - 27 Sep 2024 at 1:18pm |

Cheers Is that trigger guard not stock? It's obviously an early HW80K - Did they change the trigger guard on recent models?? I love the classic old rifle - I'm old but hardly classic! And I'm pretty sure that it's in better mechanical nick than me - first tutu with erratically operating Cheap Chinese Chrono gives it 223 m/sec with .95 g H&N FT Trophys or 17.45ft/ib so it seems reasonably sound and shoots straighter than anything I've air-blasted lead through. The chrono - it feels like it I get a muzzle velocity otherwise it just ignores the lead flying between it's sensors - I haven't had it long, used just twice in a week or so, and it may be it likes shade and dappled cloud and sun gives it brain freeze. Can someone tell me the best place to buy Weihrauch parts? Posts here seem to indicate you order from the UK so are there some good suppliers that will ship to Godzone NZ? And while I'm ordering and planning to have it in bits, I'm not TOO worried about spending coin as the rifle will likely end up with my son, so should I consider any new parts / mods to improve accuracy? I'm quite comfortable with action, twang, noise and recoil so no mods needed there unless they improve my groups. Not interested in more power but at some stage I'll experiment with that .177 barrel for longer range targets and may want to get serious about having fun trying for bulls at a local range so I'm thinking maybe the .177 barrel and heavy pellets will group better at 25 or more meters? Am I right in thinking flatter trajectory is better for serious target shooting? I know the rifle will never be a serious target beast but keen to play target shooting with it and the Diana 52. Ah, news on the Diana - it was a bargain at an auction, sight unseen, photo did not show the right side and bent cocking lever and not surprisingly, now I've broken it cocking the gun. I've emailed Ron for a new one, assume he's the best local source? Ron's prices seem very reasonable to me and I love having a yarn with him - people that share knowledge will get my money...am I better to order HW80 bolts etc through Ron as well....I'm regularly (reluctantly) in Auckland...Aucks is a great place except for the driving... |

Yes, both sides barrel hinge and both cocking lever screw heads munted, plus smaller trigger guard screw plus ones I likely munt trying to pull her to bits.
But at least my set of pin punches arrived so theres a chance I won't munt each and every pin . punches arrives so I might minimise the pin munting... |

Thanks people, that makes it an 83, just before Weihrauch made their millionth product.
No wonder it has seen better days. Best I tidy it up. |
