I've been on the hunt for this one for a couple months now, and as Gamo does not make them anymore - at least that's what I was told at my local Gun City store - it's proving to be a challenging task.

If you have one of these sitting in your shed and you're keen on passing it on for some cash, email me henrique.baronceli@gmail.com I'm in the Hawke's Bay region, and I can either pick it up if it's close enough, or we could use the dealers network to ship it over.

Was one on trade me the otherday but I've just checked and it's sold. They are brilliant for shooting birds inside buildings

often thought barreling a 2250 to use these cartridges would be a good project as they do work well on pest birds indoors and blow holes in roofs either, though cartridges bit expensive and getting hard to find now,did see couple boxs while back at magnum sports in stratford could be worth phone call .
 cheers mike

https://www.outdoorsupplies.co.nz/Gamo_vipermax.htm
Gun $675.00
If your happy to do a barrel swap id txt vaughns and see if you can just a barrel from a returned gun.
Also found this. 12 years old and I assume gamo has fixed the issue but just in case
https://youtu.be/fi_YcMS_nNI
Then you can have all the fun of a making a great gun. Use bsa running gear. Turn it into a pcp. Slap it on a gamo magnium. The world is your oyster.
Just found this. Its 12years old but could still be relevant. Breech seal kept blowing out.

I checked all these places before, and they either haven't it in stock and just haven't updated their website, or in the case of the Airgun Depot, it involves international shipping, and I don't really know the intricacies of it. I saw that one on Trade Me too, but the seller just took it off.

The good news though, is that I found one leftover stock from a store in Auckland, and have literally just sent the email asking for the payment details so we can arrange the shipping. Hopefully will be posting some feedback on it soon!

To the Gun City comment, at least here in Napier they're pretty good, with very knowledgeable people. I buy most of my stuff from them, and really like the service. Maybe it's a local branch thing, idk.

Very happy with the level of activity here though, at first glance it looked like I wasn't going to get any replies at all Smile

lmao ive dealt with napier. Same people who said you cant use alloy or copper pellets in nz. yet have them on shelf.
Same people who told me ftt only come in one head size.
Same people who sold me gamo.Even though I had over a grand in pocket to buy a decent gun.
Same people who tried to sell me chamber oil that would have dieseled.
Same people who sold me a gc scope that blew out, saying it would be sweet for job, even though i said id pay more for quality.
Same people who told me they couldnt get replacement seals, yet gun city are the sole distributors of roadster model. Said try the air gun store up auckland couldnt remember name. ( yet vaughns is the distributor)
Same ppl who have tried to tell me I need heavier pellets which the gamo hates.
Untill I got sick of it and told them they have no idea.
Gun city napier is the worst store in napier for air rifle advice.(in my view)
I have no idea who you see there but ive never met him/her
Do have a good selction of h&n.

LOL Looks like you had a hard time there indeed. I don't really know, but maybe they've got some better staffing now. Might be also that I never really asked for advice, most times I just go there with the decision made and the research behind me already. I think air guns are quite niched, and there're not that many people truly qualified to give advice on them.

Didn't realise you're from Napier, but glad to meet you fellow towner. Do you use your air rifles just for plinking or do some hunting with them too?

And yes, that's true 👇

Definitely worth I try I guess. I have 3D printers here, just need to figure out how to seal the shells, and if the PLA will withstand the blow.

I'll do some research on Thingiverse to see if I find the 3D model.

Yes, and I've been on the hunt for months now, so they're bloody hard to find here in NZ, and the few ones I've tried to buy - unsuccessfully - had their prices right up there. This one will certainly have its special place in the safe.

thats what i do with them now. Go in with what i want. Will get them to check products for use on air rifles. For example the cyclinder lube I ended up getting I got them to check on web for me as i hadnt seen it before.
Im only going back a week or two with "cant use alloy pellets"
I primarly hunt. Do a lot of target shooting but thats sorting guns for hunting and improving techniques. The farm im on has a lot of game. Since first got gamo taken hare, rabbit, pigeon, quail, pheasent and cats. All cats taken with tx.Arnt allowed to shot magpie which sux cause there is way to many. If there were possums ( is that the real spelling or a kiwi thing? I thought it was opossum) Id be knocking them off too.
I need to start on the mynars and starlings but havent. I have no idea why. I use a gilly suit during the day which os especially effective with birds. They just dont seem to pick up on it very well. Other critters are getting wise to it.
Im actually out sheridan way.

That sounds quite good, I do some plinking, but mostly hunt too. I've had a permission in a farm near a block I have down in Waipuk for wild turkeys, but the farm has sold last week and now I'm trying to figure out the new owners to see if they're happy for me to carry on taking them down. Til then I'll have to settle with plinking in my own block or using the DOC land for bigger game with my crossbow.

The Viper Express will be likely for varmints around the house, or whatever else I can get short range 😃

I managed to pick up a Gamo viper express last week with 4 boxes of shells. Slightly newer version from my brother in-laws wich was the first version.

My gun does not have the choked and rifled muzzle so probably not as accurate in firing pellets. Also the shot groups are higher at 15m than his gun so they may have set this on the newer version to increase range? Or it might be me... I've missed two starlings because of this shooting high. Will repost once red dots on and hopefully a pile of starlings.

I saw something on the Web about the reason they rifle, air rifle barrels (deablo shape is stable in flight even through smooth barrel)
Was due to air pushing past the pellet as it left the barrel, upsetting the pellet balance at beginning of flight.
spin stabilisation countered that.
It recommended that getting the end of the barrel recrowned on a bit more of an angle and make sure its machined to high standard so the air pushes past evenly as pellet leaves barrel can improve smooth bore accuracy.
Hopefully we will see plenty of starlings and hopefulky a few 2 with one shot. Maybe even a couple on the wing at close range.

Red dot turned up today, haven't had much time other than mount it and sight it in for 15m using flat head pellets, they are not too bad at that distance (will try diablo next)

Only fired 1 shot shell and at that distance it had spread out to a good 14" area with at least 2-3" between the pellets so definitely not as good as the brother in-laws choked barrel (he gets about a 9-10" spread at that distance.

Is it worth lathing up a brass choke for the barrel?? If I did and got a 6" spread at that distance it would be an amazing gun for pests

I will have a look at reloading the shells with more shot and see what happens.

Do you also have the Shadow DX Express? Because I've got that one and I can't see any choke or rifling on my barrel. Haven't really stopped to pattern it, but it feels it spreads quite a bit too. If you get a choke for it, could I perhaps ask for you to make me one too? How would you fix it though, if you wouldn't be able to screw it as you do on a normal shotgun?

On the reloading thing, I ended up buying quite a few shells, but I'm saving the casings to try doing it at some point. Would be great if you could share any results here with reloaded shells. It has about 20J of power, so should be able to shoot bigger pellets than the bird shot at close range.

It may be, doesn't have DX mentioned anywhere. If I can do a choke I'll have to lathe the outter polymer off and do a push on or external thread if that makes sense.

I'll do reloaded shells first when I can find the shot. Will use a wad punch and punch some 3mm cardboard for the wadding and will experiment with the front end to keep the shot in. I think overfilled shot will make the difference than doing a choke.

Will keep you posted

I'm kinda looking at one of these for the same problem.
Birds pooping on everything in my shed.
Are they worth getting and do they still sell ammo for them?
Are there any for sale in nz ?

I had a play with paulos gun.
Typical gamo build, could do with tinkering..
I'd give it a 7m range for sure kill.. Small bird.
Cartridges cost but Paulo had been reloading them and got differnt sized bb from Web.
Bbs they come with are tiny.
I rember thinking it would be a good close range gun for small birds.
Pretty niche so if you got one cheap could be a go.
However it's an air rifle, it's loud enough that youll prob only get one shot and they would be gone. It's a very limited use gun in my view
Fun though

Would installing a net in the shed appeal? I have done this in farmers sheds to great effect. Purpose made 19 mm net.

Ive just put my b3 slug gun back together and tested it against the shed wall I want to shoot birds in.
It doesn't penetrate the tin so Im stoked.
It will be my bird gun to smoke the black birds and sparrows that invade my shed.
Still interested in the shotgun slug gun tho but not as necessary now.
Nah I dont think a net will stop them pooping over all my stuff but a lead pill will hehehe

How exactly does an air gun shot gun work?

-------------
Walk quietly, but carry a big stick.

Break barrel.
Loads a plastic cartridge that has small wad front and rear, bbs and wads come out of cartridge.
Cartridge gets taken out manually.

It would really lean itself to a pcp set up. 30 cal+ barrel, smooth bore. Print the cartridge. Up the bb size.
Pcp would make smoking good shoty.
