There is not much talk on this forum. Will someone tell the them that the NZairgun.com forum is probably dead.
So to carry on from where I left off on the other forum.
I tried weights on the muzzle with some success and some failures.
Next I tried loading the butt with caste lead billets properly attached. Up to 500 grams on the end.  The only noticeable difference was that the HW77 shot about 40 mms higher at 12 metres and that I think was caused by the weight causing the butt to slip on the shoulder.
Overall the experiment did not result in any useful gain. I think that the advantages of a heavy rifle such as the 77 regarding steady hold and recoil damping come from the centre of gravity being obtained by the spread of weight along the rifle. There seems to be no advantage loading the end of the butt.
In some cases there is good advantage loading the muzzle.

Are you going to load your airgun book on here Nova?

I don't know too much about that, but would surmise that more weight in the stock is a comfort/form thing, where barrel weights mess with accuracy.

I know that when I shot my 97 and didn't have the side wheel on the scope, there was a definite shift sideways of the POI, approx 5 mm at 10 m, and would then come back on target if the wheel was attached again.

Weights are normally used to balance the rifle to assist with positional shots as far as i am aware of. Like the tx is fairly front end heavy so some weights at the back help with standing shots. But not having seen your first post on the other fourm i can't really comment.
