I will be updating the forum and features next weekend 31st Aug between 11pm and 2am 1st. so expect the forum to be off line between these times. Hopefully it will go smoothly without losing everyone's data lol. Ive been holding off on this a while because i will lose all the custom features i have added but i think it is time to get it up to scratch and upgrade the mobile version of this site as it is pretty sh*thouse if we are been honist.

Well i didn't upgrade the site. Had to many problems with the back end side of things. Im waiting for the guys i host the space to get back to me.

I have 150GB of space. I cant backup the site because it says i am over the dick space limit by 150%...when i check it says used space is 15gb and 135GB free space. so i dont know what he hell is going on.

You got to love IT…

Kruza, there are not that many “guests”, or even members posts (outside of the usual posters) in a month, never mind a few days, so I’m guessing those were spammers that were blocked.

Don't know but 2 hours plus on site, then getting access denied when going to comment on the pcp thread doesn't seem like a spammer.
I seen that many guest online before, in the 20s seems to be pretty average when I look during day here.
6 of one 1/2 dozen of other, was just to bring it to Nunga's attention in case there's a glitch stopping commenters.

A guest is anyone that is not a member of the forum that is viewing the site. Guests can not post or reply to topics.

Posted By: kruzaroad
Date Posted: 02 Sep 2024 at 7:27am
Wouldn't it be more advantageous to allow guests a post or two?
Someone who's spent a bit of time reading posts and wants to comment, may have great insight goes to chip in to conversation and gets access denied.
If you were listening to a conversation and went to chip in and got told don't want to hear what you have to say, would return to it.
Thats just my thought.

Generally you need to join a forum to be able to comment, so it makes sense that if they visit and feel compelled to comment that they join.

Posted By: kruzaroad
Date Posted: 02 Sep 2024 at 5:38pm
Or don't, how many forums have been looked through and not joined because who don't the hassel of pass words etc to make a comment.
But to be able to comment once or twice is like dropping a baited hook. Some fish like to nibble the bait before taking the bite.

Agree - a lot of the UK / US wont allow interaction without signing in. Even clicking to enlarge images prompts sign in.
I think its fair - keeps content relavant and limits scamming.

I was thinking a button to a redirect page, with a name only sign in, that gave you two posts before you had to join.
The site already separates the guests from members, so that's done. The redirect page would be a whole separate set up so new coding allowing a couple of comments per log on to page isn't much more script to add. It adds another layer.
General viewers could look on the usual set up.
As for scammers, deal with it. The Web ain't full of fluffy ducks all quacking nicely. Sure do what you can to stop them getting on site, but end of the day if you get scammed that's because you didn't do enough to check it out, not the site, not Nunga, not me but you.
Its part of the Web, though it's not nice for all you know someone could have signed on as a member and be biding time, waiting to pull a scam.
To many limitations will stop site growth, limit input and become a closed group of people.

That's the the best reason I heard so far Nunga. You could always delegate a couple more admin to help with stuff like that. But your site your choice.

Posted By: RangerPete
Date Posted: 03 Sep 2024 at 4:22pm
I think there is nothing wrong with having to “earn” the priveledge of being able to interact with other members.
Especially if it is explained to new or prospective members that the reason is to keep spammers out, it’s perfectly understandable.

Your not pulling it into frames, so what are using for size definition?
A set measurement or a percentage?
Is it a java script sub routine to give it size , a html comand or something different?
What is the site written in? I dont have a view source on pH so can't see behind the screen

I'm pretty outdated but once upon a time I'd spend about 13 hours a day writing html and building web sites back before web site building apps and stuff. Got a good enough knowledge to help with a bit of web research and maybe sort the issue.

Posted By: nunga

The problem is this forum im using is pretty much old and outdated there is not much support for it. The mobile code that i have found is located in 8 files

forum_topics.asp
forum_posts.asp
RTE_javascript.asp
non_RTE_javascript.asp
register.asp
status_bar_header_inc.asp
mobile_default_style.css
header.asp

I am using percentage in the mobile view. it used to be in measurements. It is in java.

There is over 100 files to go through and change...it is driving me nuts lol

Ask chat gpt. I just gave it a basic run down, and got a few work arounds in general.
You could save yourself a lot of time by going to it.
Its pretty good on program issues.
So i refrazed the question,to what info would it need.
ChatGPT

You said:
Having uploading issues with a change in server platform, doest have some of the required things to run site properly any more. What info would you need to help analize ways of working around it.

ChatGPT
To analyze workarounds for your server platform issue, I’d need the following details:

1. Server & Hosting Details
What server platform were you using before, and what are you using now? (e.g., Apache, Nginx, LiteSpeed)
Are you using shared hosting, VPS, or a dedicated server?
Do you have root access to the new server?
2. Software & Dependencies
What specific features or software are now missing that the site depends on? (e.g., PHP version, database type, modules, scripts)
Any error messages or logs indicating missing components?
3. Website Stack
What is your site built on? (e.g., WordPress, Laravel, Django, static HTML)
What programming languages and frameworks does it use?
4. Deployment & Upload Issues
Are you having trouble uploading files via FTP/SFTP, or is it a permission issue?
Are there restrictions on execution, file types, or storage space on the new server?
Does the new platform have any security policies blocking your uploads?
5. Possible Constraints
Are there limitations on what you can install or modify on the new server?
Do you need a workaround that doesn’t require a full server migration?
Let me know as many details as possible, and I’ll help you explore solutions.

chat gpt can not help. the server we are now on does not have the software installed that this website is setup to use. simple. The provider must install the required aspupload for this site to work or i will change to another provider which offers the service.

Noting new to report. Spent an hour on the phone with the tech support...went around in circles because they have no clue what they are doing. We did however agree that that have changed the plan and server on me to a PHP server which does not have any real ASP support and they advised me to use filezilla to upload pictures to the site...SO after trying to tell him that is not an option for 30 minutes and him saying use use that software i told him where he can put his server and i will find another hosting company because these guys are stupid.
