Well I just couldn't sit around looking at stocks and not build another. I reckon the K in 97K stands for Ken, cos it's developing a wardrobe like a Ken doll. Not that I had one growing up, lets make that clear. I had a 6 million dollar man and action man.
Anyway, I started on this yesterday and emerged from the garage tonight with heaps done. So here's the progress so far. Still a lot to do. I will cut the butt and make it an adjustable check pad. Still to profile the stock fore end but will keep it quite plain. I also plan to inset an accessory rail for mounting a hamster. I'm not sure whats best there, whether I put a rail like a weaver, Anschutz type or flat bar with threaded holes or maybe just two threaded inserts. Any ideas? On the butt I plan to sport a locally made adjustable plate, all going well.  Smile

Ian, what are the dimensions of the mounting plate on your butt plates? classic shape or rectangular?

That looks good Paul. What is the wood?

Hi Neil, it's a Eucalyptus. Not stunning in the grain dept, but there is some showing. It's hard and dense. I made a stock for the 95 out of it and it soaks up the recoil nicely, so i'm keen to feel how it fires once finished.
If i've got some left over, I could make one for the Meteor. LOL

I make them to order mate what ever size/shape you want. Just need the distance between centers.  They are made from 25x10 flat bar

Hi Brett, yea life's like that. I want to use tru oil on this as I really like the stuff, but I would like to darken it a touch more. Any suggestions? Could I add something to the tru oil or pre treat it with a thinned tint?

Experiment
might sound odd, but try mixing coffee (not instant) with the oil, of course try it onna scrap bit first to get the right colour :)
theres lots of ways to darken the oil, think outside the square

I had a good go at the stock the last couple of days. Funny, I got really discouraged at one point and thought stuff it, I can't be buggered, but had a break and carried on. Once I cut the cheek piece I was inspired again. I am pleased that turned out ok as I was a bit worried.

First coat of Tru oil to make it look purdy, and hang it out to dry.

Pretty much finished now. Cheek riser done, just needs the action dropped in and butt pad.
I will be keen to shoot it, I think the dense wood absorbs more recoil.

Action fitted now. All going well. I might spend a bit of time tomorrow just shooting it to get it settled in. I will replace the bolts holding the cheek piece with a grub screw so they don't stand out, and countersink the main bolt underneath that holds the action. Next step is a hamster and butt pad. Then I will join a gym to bulk up to be able to lift it. :)

What size threads are the cheek adjust screws? I've got some nice domed head Allen key ones here.

Looks pretty nice mate 😊

I made a new focus wheel last night. I'm not sure on the look, possibly art deco 😯😞 it functions well.
I was redoing the ranges today and then tried a few shots. Whaaat! Elevation all over the place, then checked the stock screws and they were all loose. No tools with me, but a quick tighten should fix it.
I finished off the butt with a contrasting hardwood and shaped it to fit the pad, so all done now. 😎👣

I've made some additions lately. Thanks to Nunga a.k.a GNS I have fully blinged out my stock. Focus side wheel, adjustable hook and hamster bracket.

I ended cutting my stock a bit shorter to accommodate the hook, but it was a bit too long anyway. Now I have the hamster as well, I feel way more comfortable when shouldering the gun. So all ready to go.

Yea, I haven't shot constructively since the world's. Slayed a heap of pigeons though.
Just had a few shots at my knock down targets, feels really good. The hook really helps me get my head in the right position. There's something satisfying about hearing that clunk as the target falls.

Thanks for "hooking" me up NUNGA! 🐀
