So, you are allowed only 1 air rifle (I know, I know, I know;  so unfair) and it has to be gas piston, not spring and it also  has to be .22.
It is for hunting small game and pottering away at targets, plus, of course , being air, general fun plinking.
What is it and why?

Diana ar8. Accurate. Well made. Comfortable. Not to heavy, carried it around from 2.30pm to 7.45pm tonight and still wasn't an issue. Can leave it cocked or decock it. Plenty enough power to drop a young goat. Easy to load in dark.
Having said all that only second gas ram i have had.

Actually I'm investigating one of those locally today, so I may have more news on that by early next week.
Or I might wait for Kruzaroad to buy one, tune it, and flick it to me later, preferably for half what he pays for it.Big smile
I'll keep you all posted.

You must, surely, be getting bored with it by now!
How much?

Yep, the idea of that power in a single shot with fixed iron sights is encouraging, especially given the cost.
But i'll have to wait for KiwiTR6's screw sets to arrive for my Gamos before I purchased another.  The CAT trigger is acceptable, but, after using the 97 for a while now, it's like comparing a Ferrari to a Massey Ferguson.

Not a gun I'll get bored with. Espially with the ability to stalk young goats. Even if i never manage to shoot another, still gets me out during the day when don't feel like evening and night shooting.

Well I got a message that the HW90 might not be available for long so cut my fishing trip short and headed back and yep, HW90 is in the safe.
Prettiest piece of wood that I've ever seen on an air rifle.  Tiger stripe beech.
Swapped a couple of scopes around and now the 97 has way more load space with the shorter Sightmark 2.5 - 15 X 50 and the scope that was on the 97 now adorns the previously un adorned 90.
Just the small matter of a munted breech seal, which will fortunately be fixed tomorrow via the included spare set that came in the original box and packaging with the rifle.
Then I'll take the stock off and clean it up as it seems it still has the original grease etc around the joints.
More fun to follow.
Got the 97 sighted in roughly at 20 metres so I'll fine tune that tomorrow.
All fun and games.

Met a guy that has a few air rifles.   200, actually.
He has a few more for sale.
Is there anything in particular that you're after?
And, yep I'll keep you all posted.  It needs some work, mostly from not having been used.
I'll start that process today with a clean and seals.
Did fire it.  Beautiful trigger, probably the equal of the non polished Rekords.

You're a lucky man Ashman!!!  Smile

That's so cool getting an HW90 like that!!!  What a classic keeper that will be!

I'd also love an HW80 .22 if he happens to have one for sale - but funds are low at present due to the current Cost of Living.

I'm so pleased for you.... I don't think there are many HW90's in NZ?  They're such a good looking rifle too eh?!  My guess is they'll be very rare in 10 years time so you've bought at the perfect time....

Dying to hear your thoughts after shooting it for a while..... if you can talk with such a wide smile on your face!!!  LOL

It's a thing of rare beauty.  The wood on it is sensational.   Not for long though;  it will get used and in the scrub country it's destined for, it'll get looked after but not pampered.  There will be a time when it has more character than gloss.
To get one still in the box, with the spare seals, the owners manual and even the Weihrauch trigger hanger advert is pretty special.
And I guess i do have the Gamo and the 97 Blackline , the latter beautifully worn in, the real rough stuff might get visited more often by by the synthetics.  Who knows?  Time will tell.
Very excited by the process of wotking out the issues and remedying them.   All part of the process.

I agree with you Ashman - rifles are to be used, not pampered!

I'm green with envy!  Pictures and progress please......  I've always wanted an HW90. SmileSmile

I tell you what if I could purchase one gun right now it would be this one.  I reckon this is the best bargin on Trademe right now.  I would love to have one of these guns.  Can't believe he's selling all this stuff with it for that price!

Not sure how to do pictures on here.  I'm about as technically challenged as is practicable.
Anyone got any advice on a how to?

Above the text box tap the arrow facing up (or click if on computer i guess). That will take you to the next screen.
Next screen tap the icon of a tree with blue arrow. That will take you next screen.
Hit the choose file box in sentance.
That should link you to your photos or give you the option to do that.
Select the pic you want, then hit select or whatever your ph/computer uses for that word.
That will take you back to the choose file screen.. but now the file name of the pic should be alongside the choose file box.
Hit ok to the right of screen.
Box will pop up saying be patient while pic uploads, hit ok.
When screen shows choose file and your pic name no longer shows... Go back to right-hand side and hit cancel.
This should take you back to what you were typing before uploading pic.. but now there should be the the txt for pic link in box too.
You can cut and paste that where ever you want the pic in txt if you want.
Pics cant be over 4mb. Check this before you upload or you will wait to get a message saying file to big.
Cropping can cut image size down.(sometimes it increases the size as it brings up more detail)
You can screenshot your pic which will take it from mb to kb usually.
Crop off any extra screen stuff you don't want showing if you want, in whatever photo editor your ph/computor has if you want.
I imagine some editors will let you drop resolution if you want to do it that way.
Looking forward to seeing pic.

Nunga this a question asked all the time by new members. Is there any chance you can pin a how to link above the dialog box so new members have easy access to the info. Or just simplify the process.

Metallicsting - yes, that's a great buy too!  Smile

I have the HW97KT .177 and as mentioned elsewhere recently, I love it!!!

For example, yesterday late afternoon I took 5 shots at a used asthma Symbicort Turbohaler container at 70yds.  I hit it every time and the group was approximately 15-18mm.

Now that in my book is a superb springer!  And the pellets sunk right into the tough plastic at that range too!  Accurate, powerful and consistent!

As I'm zeroed at 50yds, those 5 shots were made using a 3.5 Mildot holdover at x16 magnification with my old (but trusty) Hawke Varmint scope on top.

Don't you just love Weihrauchs?!  They really are the best....

But Ashman's HW90 is probably the best looking one of the lot?!  On par with the HW98... Big smile

Dated the 90 from the Weihrauch website.  It's made in 2000 so it's been sitting in its original box and all for over a quarter of a century.
No wonder it needs some work.  If my piston hadn't been used for that long, I'd need a proctologist, cardiologist, and urologist.
Was going  to start the operation tonight, but Mum (90!!) is in town for a scrabble contest so time with her was foremost.

I’ve never actually shot one. I’ve just watched lots of videos on them and I really want one lol. Btw I see in your tag you have a YouTube link. Are you Richard Leonard from Air Arms TV? If so. You have great content I watch them all the time 🤙

Yeah I saw those and forgot to post them. Someone on the shooting forum posted the same one. These will be my next springer purchase for sure. FX are replacing my shroud btw. But who knows how long that’s going to take for the part to arrive as it will be on a shipment with other gun stuff. So I’m back to watching a lot of YouTube again 😂

Metallicsting - On the video that's me with Richard filming locally some years ago with my Air Arms S510, another great rifle (but old Tech now)!

That rifle is still a tack driver after 12+ years and it is one of the old models before they were fitted with  regulators! Smile

I'm continually amazed at the accuracy and at 32fpe, she still knocks magpies down at 140yds!  I have the wonderful Hawke Sidewinder 30 on top.

To keep both my S510 and my S410 in good working order, I use one for 6 months then swap over to the other for 6 months..... seems to work well.

Both rifles like the AA Diabolo Field 16gr pellets - or the Edgun 16gr pellets....

Oh wow! That 125 yard shot on that video was amazing! Great video. He doesn’t seem to do many videos these days which is a shame. If I’m ever out that way I’ll hit you up. My sister lives in Bunnythorpe so not too far away from you. I need to get up there and shoot her rabbits once my rifle is fixed.

Hi Metallicsting,

Small world eh?!  We're 5km from Bunnythorpe!!! Smile

You are most welcome to come over when you're up here - I have two air rifle ranges (70yds and 140yds), all kitted out for shooting (wind flags, distance pegs, safe range-ends, dry firing areas, etc) so bring your weapon(s) and plan for a day of fun!

I'll PM you now with my details...

Cheers, Myson.

Ok so the HW90 is a gun that needs a wee few bits of specialist equipment, in particular a converter for the pressurizing of the chamber and a pump, which I have.
I took the stock off last night, took one look at the machining and workmanship and there's no way I'm putting my sausage fingers and technical illiteracy to work on such a fine firearm.
Is there anyone in the country, other than Ron Young and, particularly in the South Island, that you educated folks would trust with this?
Or does someone down south here have the Weihrauch regassing connector that I could borrow?

Hi Ashman,

Check this Hard Air Mag article on HW90 Pressure setup:

And there's other good stuff on how to do this out on the Net.... well worth the effort!  Smile

regarding the regassing - you are best to buy one and keep it with the gun - that way you can fine tune it to your liking - they can make good power but you may find a little lower is fine for what you need it for and the improved shot cycle and cocking effort is worth the drop. have a look at Best Fittings in UK. they have the fitting for charging, and likely a slim jim pump, but there have been a few cheap pcp pumps on trademe recently that may work better.

I have a Theoben Eliminator, its a beast - heavy, solid, beautiful! big cocking effort but its 27 footpound. could be dropped to 20fpe and smoothed out.
I have a Sirocco - early 1984 example. stacks pellets and around 22 footpound so not so hard on cocking and shot cycle. trigger lets it down a little as the webley trigger is a bit behind the likes of weihrauch.
I have another sirocco as well, later model with thumbhole stock. its a bit of a wreck with a broken and repaired stock, but it has a shorter carbine barrel than the early sirocco

The one gas ram id want would be the SLR 98 carbine! im a sucker for an underlever!
