Hi everyone,
I’ve just joined the group and thought I’d introduce myself, after not picking up an air rifle since the late 70’s , earlier this year I picked up a Hatsan 135 QE in .25 cal, which had some work done on it — de-burred / polished piston, upgraded suppressor internals with a 3D-printed frame for tighter tolerances, also a new spring and breech seals.
Originally, it was purely for pest control — we’ve had a big increase in rats in the backyard. But what started as culling quickly turned into something more. I began setting up cans of baked beans at different distances to test my accuracy, then added splatter targets to track progress.
Before long, it became something I genuinely enjoy — almost therapeutic. After putting in the time and taking plenty of shots to tighten my grouping, after watching countless youtube videos, I’ve caught the bug.
Now I’m looking to step up to a Weihrauch HW80 or HW98 in .22 cal. Keen to experience the satisfaction of shooting with a high-quality rifle and a top-tier trigger.
If anyone has an HW80 or HW98 they’re thinking of selling, feel free to reach out — I’d be keen to chat.
Cheers!
Westy

Welcome bro, my first adult airgun was a hatsan to, nothing flash but that's where the addiction started.
I totally gel with the therapeutic side of pulling triggers lol
There was an hw80 mentioned forsale on here not long ago, I remember reading about it, other than that i think there was a couple on trademe recently also.
I've never shot either but always liked the look of the HW98

Hi. Welcome to the slippery slope of air guns. Its a world where no two guns are the same. Full of little idiosyncrasies to drive you mad, but knowledge and practice give great rewards. Where wallets empty for the sake of trying a new gun. Where small game shooting becomes interesting and a challange again. relitivitly small distance become a challange in wind. Pellet drop is a major learning curve and target shooting requires skill to master Where pulling apart your gun is par for the course, great fun and rewarding when you improve its preformance. Yep welcome to the slippery slope, she's a ride and a half. And we're all sliding down it with you. Ask questions, put up pics, write up your adventures, share your experience. Always keen to hear how you are sliding down the slope.

I think that the PM function only becomes available after a number of posts by a new member. This is to prevent someone joining the list and immediately spamming everyone as has happened in the past. One of the admins can manually enable PM for a new member but by design it is not immediately available for new members.

And being someone who had two scammers trying it on re items I listed for sale, this current system works well!

Try messaging now. I boosted your points. I believe this has to get to a certain level before you can message. if it doesn't work report back. Nunga knows the proper ins and outs.

HW80's are terrible rifles, worse than Gamo even. Horrible trigger, inherently inaccurate and valueless second hand. Which is why, if you don't buy it Westy, I'll be happy to, as a public service, so that no one else will be disappointed by it. Welcome!

Thanks for the info, I have enough patience, to see how it will perform, so I'm sure it will be easier / more accurate than my hatsan 135 QE. 25, happy to make it a project if it requires tuning

Welcome Westy, the Hatsan 135 is a hell of a way to get back into airguns. Read the reviews, keep asking questions and enjoy the process of choosing your next air rifle. HW98 is a great selection but not generally available in New Zealand.
Cheers from Taranaki

I Have an HW98 in 177. It's probably 15 years old. Previous owner for it's first 4 years treated it beautifully, and put hundreds of shots through it. I had a 95 for a while and they are basically the same, but the 98 with adjustable stock and that thicker barrel just makes it special. The modern ones with the threaded barrel for a silencer would be good.
The accuracy of the 98 makes me giggle when I shoot it.

I have a 98 in .177 also. Not available here so I imported it from Krale around 12 months ago. A beautiful gun although mine had a manufacturing fault and performance deteriorated very quickly. I was able to repair it myself (warranty was out of the question really). I bought it in preference to the 97 and I’m very pleased with my choice.

It’s a shame the HW98 isn’t readily available locally. I did manage to purchase a .22 HW80 from a member on this forum, and he’ll be dropping it off today. I’m really looking forward to testing its capabilities.
