I've got a Prosport .177 made in 2011
It's been a tack driver forever, still is but... I installed a new mainspring myself purchased from Youngs, just watched a vid on youtube it was easy as, moly here, greese there etc. i didnt put a new seal in as didnt know how without damaging it and i shot fine so didnt want to fix what wasnt broken.

Still shoots awesome considering the bluing is long gone from the barrel shroud but it twangs.

Wondering if anyone in south island knows how to sort that out or make a guide or something, whatever it needs to quieten it up again and how much it might cost.

I put a new scope on it a fixed 10* which i love but it's still slightly canted, been trying to get it right, doing my head in so I have a look again tomorrow maybe.

Not sure yet if i want to keep it as a back up or sell it and keep using my new tx but I want it with a nice quiet shot cycle again.

Does anyone here know who does this kind of tuning?

I've long lost the new seal

Not sure about tuners in the mainland - but you can get a TbT kit for your gun which includes new spring with matching guides, dry moly paste and molly grease for approx 200 bucks - basically  60 pounds sterling + delivery.

Check out https://www.airrifletuning.com - there is even a step-by-step video of the process to strip, clean fit the kit and put it back together again.  I think there is also a video on fitting new piston seals

I've had two TBT kits, neither of them were simple drop-in items.  HW30 and HW98. In both cases the guides were too long preventing the guns from cocking and had to be trimmed.  This can take quite a bit of time and multiple pull downs to get right which can be a bit annoying.

That said, they are effective.

I now make my own although they are somewhat different to the TBT design.

Mine for hw dropped strait in.
The spring sizes are different between full power and 12fpe.
The spring for hw was a bit shorter due to the addition of bottom guide and slip washers. It is noted on the sight that if you get the wrong size spring or try putting the original spring back in, it will be too long and the sear won't catch.
But thats only from my one experience and im totally stoked with the resaults.

My kits were with the TBT springs and I installed with no spacers fitted.  Neither would latch without trimming, one required quite a bit and it's pretty much trial and error to get this right.  I approached Nic and he offered a discount on my next purchase.  He said that Weihrauch makes unannounced internal changes that can cause this problem.

They do work very well though and I'm not disappointed, just warning that some work may be needed.

Ive already been in contact with Nic regarding this.  While the Diana 31/34 kit should be a drop in, I'm going to take the gun apart, take some measurements and send them to him.  I'm pretty sure there is a video on his YouTube channel that covers off what measurements he needs for this.

You get the "Twang" because the spring is too lose on the steel guide tube. It needs to be a nice tight fit around it. When the spring compresses it unwinds and gets slightly bigger. When you pull the trigger and the spring un-compresses you get the twang. to fix this without buying an expensive kit you can get a plastic coke bottle. cut it out to make a sheet. Then wrap that around the guide tube. This will last a while till you find a more permanent solution. and it does work as i did that on my TX back in the day before i machined up my own kit.

I forgot to buy a coke bottle, but i will.

do you just cut a sleeve to wrap once and met edge to edge or wrap it a few times, whatever is required to fit snuggly to the spring ?

just wrap it around till it fits snugly and cut the rest off and you are done. The spring will hold it in place so no need to glue or tape it.

I think it's best to wrap it until it joins but doesn't overlap. My theory being that if it overlaps you will have a thick side pushing spring to the side.

I also round the corners that stick out of the piston so a sharp edge doesn't catch or clatter along the spring.

I must try this on the cheapo .177 I picked up on TradeMe for $15.  Only got it so I could take it apart , clean and re-lube without worrying about breaking it.  It was all gunked up inside and I've added over 120fps to the muzzle  velocity.  It's turned out way better than I hoped but it's still very twangy.  Only ever be a "plinker"  but It's a lot of fun trying to hit tin cans to 30m with open sights.

ok time for an update,

I pulled the spring out of my prosport today, cut a piece of plastic from lemonade bottle so that it fit around the exsisting metal guide and touched edge to edge once wrapped, also cut it about 10m shorter than the guide.

Was a bitch to get it into the spring but a bit of banging in on straight down on the ground did the trick.

Reassembled, fired a shot and wow it was like brand new, so I fired a doz or so shots and the difference is amazing.

Thank you everyone for that do it yourself fix, worked a treat.

I try drop a couple hundred pellets through it tomorrow see how it holds out
