Hi,

At 67 years old I purchased my first air gun a couple of weeks back.  A Gamo Wildcat Whisper .22, primarily for pest control.    I live on a rural property not far from Norsewood  and we have issues with possums, Magpies and wild Turkeys.

Starting to get interested in targets and have just purchased a cheap 177 Gamo air pistol for a bit of back yard plinking.

Hi Ec, welcome.
I have a few gamo units and have posted reviews.
Mid power unit like your Whisper are within the CAT2 trigger capabilities so good choice.

Experimenting with pellets can be costly and leave you with many unused tins, so well worth some investigation, with plenty of good advice available on this forum.

Pellet trajectory needs to be learned for different distances so set out some markers and practice until your chosen distance corrections become automatic.

Use the hunting section for reference and share success or failures and keep us up to date.

cheers

Hi Ec,

I'm not too far from you (in Feilding). Smile

If you need any advice - or a range to shoot on and zero in your rifles - you're most welcome to come over here.  I'm on a rural lifestyle property outside of Feilding and have a good knowledge of airgunning and shooting in general (65 years of shooting worldwide!).  I shoot on local farms too, carrying out Pest Control.

Private Message me for my location details, if you'd like to come over.

PS:  Look up the Artillery Hold on Youtube.  You'll need to use that technique to shoot Springers accurately.

Hi Myson,

I live on a 4 acre life sentence block at the very end of a shingle road, surrounded by farmland, so have plenty of room to practice and zero my rifle.  However I would be keen on a visit to learn more about using my air rifle better.  I did a lot of duck scaring with a 12g from my late teens through to early 20s but have done very little rifle shooting with either air guns or powder burners.   I have been watching a bunch of air gun stuff on YouTube so understand the challenges of shooting a springer accurately.

We had seen and heard a few possums so my son-in-law (I live in a tiny home on the same property as my daughter, son-in-law & grandson) got himself an air rifle and has managed to get two so far.   As I have more spare time and the garden was showing signs the possum issue was not solved a few weeks back I bought a 2nd hand .22 Gamo on TradeMe.

YouTube has got me interested in shooting targets and I have recently purchased a Gamo P900 IGT break-barrel pistol.  Low power and  only good for plinking in the back yard but is good fun.

Anyway, for now at least time to deal to a few more possums!

-Ec

Hi Ec,

Sounds great!  I'll send you a Private Message tomorrow so we can discuss a get together and air rifle shoot and discussion.

I think you'll love air-gunning  - the air technology today provides powerful, accurate and very enjoyable shooting that is cheap to run (after you've bought your rifle)!

Much cheaper than rimfires, centrefires or shotguns today!!!  Smile

Talk soon..... Myson.

Hi Myson,

I don't have access to messaging within the forums yet - possibly due to being new, or possibly one of the moderators needs to enable?

Anyway - not a panic as I won't have much free time for until next month.

I have done some tweaking to the system so you should be able to access things now.

I had to put restrictions on new members because we had problems with scammers trying to scam our members. I have adjusted these setting now making it quicker to gain access to the sites full features.

Nunga,
Seems to me maybe you should be working for a major social media company on a multi-million dollar salary; you clearly look after this forum better than the big players especially in protecting us from morons who plague the online world with scams and trolling.

Nice work mate - we owe you!

And belated welcome to Ec - great you can both enjoy your air rifle and pistol and solve some pesky pest problems!
Cheers
Mark
