Due to the overwhelming participation in the long distance comp.
Cheers nunga👍
I'm going to flick the hundred over (which I had written off as gone) to a new comp. Either as a hundred bucks or two lots of 50 bucks if its something pistols and rifles can compete in.
So if you people are interested sort out a comp amongst yourselves and let me know at end of week and we will start it.
Conditions:
1:prize will be paid to shop of your choice for goods. (air gun shop)
NZ only for prize.
2:Any paper target comp will be done on those multi little target sheets at one shot per target on sheet. This because we don't really have the ability to carefully scrutinise groups on line.
Home made ones of same size fine. We can measure a couple pellet holes to verify the bull size and surrounding ring.
Name, date, gun, cal to be put on target sheet
3:if possible for anything 20m and under stick a ph behind you and film it. I'more than happy to stick the footage up on utube site for storage unlisted, with link only access. Deleted on request.
Failing that a couple during and after pics will be fine. This is to verify your not sticking a 5year old target up etc
4: comp will run for one month for prize then open up to who ever where ever, but will be no prize, no winners as eventually someone better will come along and outshoot you.
5: At least five ppl need to have entered for prize to activate.

Thats it from my end.
Rest is up to you guys
I won't be competing in any as I'm still on off on long distance buzz and better get my bow sorted, so you guys sort it and let me know.
I'm doing this as some interest in long distance was shown but seemed impractical for a lot of you as space was not a available.
So get yaking, sort a comp that suits more of you and fire away.

Starting point for a conversation.
Split prize
pistol 10m free standing, open sights.
Air rifle standing 20m open sight
But then again one target sheet standing, one target sheet prone, one kneeling could make for a interesting comp.
More so if its with a pistol.
Angle shooting is another. Hanging upside down while shooting could be interesting.
Most accurate high wind shot? A plank on a log and standing on that shooting be difficult one.

i would be interested but would need some clear rules set out on shot counts.  The beer can shooting was a bit of fun but my only thing with that was you could sit there all day and shoot 100 rounds at it. Eventually you are going to hit it its just luck and percentages.

Is it paper shooting? if so I can upload a image for you to print out so we are all shooting at the same target.

Or you could actually aim, check, your back drop, calculate what needed to be done and hit the can.
It is fun Nunga it's a bit of friendly sport between shooters.
I imagine once you guys sort out what you want to do, the rules and regs will come fast.
First let's see if a type of shooting and distance can be sorted.

My vote is for 30yards (or meters) open sights springer. Any kind of support u want, benched, artillery, standing over sticks, supported artillery, what ever works for you to get your best group. (But u can’t put in a vice.)
Best 5 shot group as long as it’s a springer/gas, open sights at 30.

I do like Nunga idea of posting a standard target that anyone can print on standard A4
Nunga, just be sure to make it at least 15cm dark outer rings, so we can at least see it with open sights and our old eyes at 30yards 😂

I'd be interested to see the club shooters view on the any position Pete.
I think there might be to much advantage to a bench shooter over a free standing to appeal to the more uuuummm moredisaplined shooters.
Maybe one of the styles or a combination of difffernt shooting styles on differnt targets?
You don't want them blaming your set up if they if they can't shoot as good as they think they can.

It can’t be an unfair advantage if everyone can use it 😂
They’ll just have to suck it up and present the best 5 shot open sights springer group that they can.
Everyone should have at least one springer with open sights, and most people should be able to find 30yards (I can’t at home but I can find somewhere to get 30yards - 175 is a bit more tricky 😂)
I think it’s a challenge that many people could try if they wanted to.
And I think the best advantage will come down to the type of open sights.

How's that ghost ring going you were hoping to sort out? I was pretty impressed with half arse one I made and tried till it broke.
Fair enough comment on positions. Have to see what others come up with as well.

Mercs 👍🏻

Kruza, it’s still rattling around in my head… I’m now thinking of taking the dogs tail rail off and using the screw holes to attach aa home made ghost ring. I’ve worked out what height it needs to be, just need the tools to make it 🤔
I wish I had a workshop.

How far back are the holes? Can you get a post and ring (they are on line) and direct screw it into the screw holes?
You'll have no excuse for not getting a 100% punching 30cal holes mercs lol.

Hundred bucks starts tomorrow ends 7th next month.
As far as I can see 30m, open sight, open cal, springer, any shooting position.
Nunga can you post up the targets you mentioned please.
My springer don't have open sights so best of shooting to the rest of you.

Something like this might be more accurate, with one shot per each target on the page..
Once you've widened a group hole it gets bit difficult to judge exactly where any pellet hitting inside that hole actually hit.
Just a thought.

If you can see those at 30 yards, with one eye closed, the other one squinting, and half the circle covered by the back sight blade, then your eyes are way better than mine!

I'll try print off one of each of the three proposed targets above and see what each looks like at 30 yards.

Nunga, have you got a possible 30yard target we can try aswell?

My printed targets are square not round but you can easily see it at 30 yards It prints out to a full a4 sheet. It is in PDF.

http://www.kiwiairgunners.co.nz/uploads/3/Square.pdf" rel="nofollow - http://www.kiwiairgunners.co.nz/uploads/3/Square.pdf

Also on a side note. I just brought a Cannon 737 multi pump. open sights. It was cheap as chips and perfect for this challenge.

I got it for the pigeon control shoot which is coming up on friday. One pump and the pellets are 380fps. Perfect for birds and wont damage any buildings. It is surprisingly accurate as well.

So here is my first attempt at a 30y open sights 10 shot group.
Nothing to write home about, but not bad for a first attempt.
I was shooting for groupings, not for score because I can’t get the 10.4gr heavies Zeored with the current open sights.
I need to file down the front post a little 🙈 to raise the group.
Be there is my first attempt.
Nunga, I didn’t see that you had posted a target, I just used one I had in my shooting box, but I’ll try print off some of yours 👍🏻

Might be I'm always on scopes but that rear sight looks high in elevation.
Is the rifle as quiet as it sounds on video?
What size is the target?
Is the tree regularly injected with lead? 😁

Nunga… at least get your self some shooting sticks 😂
Or use the rail of the deck to rest your “very Diana 48 looking” rifle on 😂

Kruz, yeah it does look a little high. it was hard to get the thing adjusted so i was just aiming at a spot on the tree where i knew the pellets would hit. and yes it is just as quiet as the video. the target is a4 paper the square from corner to corner is around 90mm. there is a link to the pdf at the top of this page.

Pete, yeah it does look like a diana 48 but it is not. As far as i can tell it is a old Chinese KL-3B fast deer it is the safety lever on the side which gives it away.

The circular target I used above is also an A4 page. The OD of the black area is 95mm (which is pretty much all I can see at 30yards, I cant make out the two white outer rings at that distance), and the white dot in the very center is 23mm.

This is supposed to be a springer 100yard (scoped) target challenge, but also seems to work well for 30yards open sights.

Started as 30m open sight challange any postion.

No, the target I used is ment for a scoped springer 100y shoot.
We are still doing a 30y open sights challenge 👍🏻

Try drawing a dirty big arrow head pointing to the bulls.
Its a lot easier to site the post under a big arrow point.

Wind settled for a few hours so set up for open sights challenge.
Hatsan has OEM Truglo green-red fibre optic sight.

First attempt indicated some practice required.

Second attempt looked to form two separate groups but at least on similar plane.

Hatsan .30 calibre model 135 springer
JSB Exact 44.75 grain pellet at 29 ft/lb
33 yards bench rest, open sights
89mm OD group

Hatsan .30 calibre model 135 springer
JSB Exact 44.75 grain pellet at 29 ft/lb
33 yards bench rest, open sights
62mm OD group

Hatsan do make of pointing out the dangers of using an airgun.

Nice shooting, those hatsan's have a lot of recoil. Thats the main reason my .25 is still sitting in the gun safe lol

That bottom target would be dead rabbit all day long.
I must have a serious go on a larger bore one day.
Ends on 7th, two more competitors and that hundy bucks can go to some one.
30m open sight, to anyone else interested.

Lightweight youth rifle, initial free standing attempt not uploaded.
Less said the better.
I lost height in a rather constant manner, so perhaps that could be corrected.
Shooting to the right was not the wind so head position problem.

Norica (Thor) .177 calibre springer
Uses green/red filaments in rear/front sights
JSB Exact 8.44 grain pellet at 8.5 ft/lb
33 yards standing, tripod, open sights
87mm OD group

Nice Mercs.
Your big boy .30cal was a tighter group, but its nice to see different rifles having a go.

Ive just aquired one of the entry level Hatsan .25cal springers, but I'm yet to pick it up.
(If anyone happens to be coming past Rototua en route to Hamilton/Cambridge please let me know, I might ask you to pick up a springer for me)
Pics show it as having open sights, so I might give it a go at the challenge when I finally get my hands on it.
