Subject: Ghost ring and fiber optic pin.

Hi Folks,
I’m looking for a ghost ring that will fit onto the dovetail of my Diana 54.
And a fiber optic pin that can replace the front post.
Does anyone have one, or perhaps know where I can get one?
Thanks,
Pete.

I had a bit of a nosie on line as I've not head of this type of sight before. (have used a peep sight)
Quite interesting. I also had a look around and to see what was a avalible. There are a few dove tail and more picatinny/weaver kits available.
Tritium ones mostly in weaver.
The name Tritium rang a bell so I looked up Tritium and it is used in watch hands. That may mean a watch maker may be able to add a couple of dots to a standard ghost day type ring as an option if you get stuck finding a night one.
It has a half life of 12years (oh yeah it's a byproduct of nuclear, though does occur natural under certain conditions) after which time it will drop dramatically in luminescence but still be more than a standard light energised glow.
Tritium doesn't need a light source to charge it for glowing.

Thanks Kruza.
Not too worried about the glow in the dark part at the moment,
Would just like to source a ghost ring that attaches to an 11mm dove tail on a springer 👍🏻.
Did your search turn up anything like that?

Dovetail yes not sure if 11mm.
Kit from UK £102.00
So Im guessing around $300 landed here.
Could you drill out a peep sight. See if I can relocate store, might be in history.

Nope haven't found 11mm dovetails yet plenty wider. Haven't searched through air soft sites.
They will be out there.
Plenty that attach to threaded holes atop a gun, if yours has them.
You could sort one out you like and cut an 11mm dovetail scope mount to size, get it faced on a lathe or milling machine, drill and tap the mounting holes. Sit sight on top.
Could work out easier and cheaper.

I wish I had the machinery and the skills to do all of that 🙈
I’ve been searching the web all day and can only find one option, a Williams WGRS - SAVAGE 54 for $45 USD plus shipping which will probably be about the same amount, if they ship outside of the us… 🙈

The 11mm dove tail rail can be unscrewed from the D54, leaving 3 threaded holes in the compression tube.
So i guess I could use those to screw something into, but would still need to find the said “something”… 🤔

I assume your trying to keep it low.
There are a heap of adaptor mounts from 11mm to.....

That would allow you to by any ghost ring set up.

ja, I have such a nice cheek weld onto the comb with the current open sights, Id want to keep the ghost ring set up at exactly the same height as the current rear blade.

I think I’ve figured out that the whole front sight can come off the barrel, leaving a 9mm dovetail in the metal of the barrel. So does anyone know anything about front sights that will fit on a 9mm front site dove tail?

I have just made a new trigger blade that sits on a 5 mm dovetail rail.
It's my first attempt and although not perfect, it works well. It would be pretty similar process for that. Reasonably fiddly though, so if you can get something for $45, I would say thats a good price.

If there are threaded holes for the rear site, then that would be easy.

If you can raid your kids lego, in particular star wars scene, you will find that Lukes lightsabers are good "tru glow" material.

Hey Pete, pulling apart a red dot for spare screws and bits and pieces.
Would this be of any interest to you. Had it on the gamo I think so is 11mm. I imagine that central hole is centered and with threading would take a ghost ring rear post.
Was thinking about going down and get the air chief out of the tip and ransacking it's rear sight and replacing the rear blade with a washer dremeled to fit, but though see if you wanted base first.

I will have a look around and see if there is anything that can be 3d printed. Then i can print it out and cast it in alloy. Might be worth a look.

Here you go Pete.
Followed your idea and cut the plastic end off barrel pulled the air chief rear sight apart.
Took out blade. Cut bottom of ring flat, cut little piece out of bottom left hand side as needs clearance and have epoxied it to the blade (waiting to dry) between the blade and the bit behind.
Should work and will give a adjustable ghost ring when reassembled.
This is proof of concept, so I'm not making it tidy just slapping it together.
Once I find the that bass again I'll put it on top and see how high it sits.

Still adjusts on the air chief. Windage isn't full as it needs a bit more taken off the left and hits the windage winder but nothing a bit tweeting won't sort out.
Proof of concept.

Sorry stuffed up.
Its a picatinny base.
Only dove tail mount I have left is the one piece gamo base, unfortunately I'm not prepared to cut the scope mounts off that.
Still food for thought

20m
Sig dagger pellets
Air chief junior
5 shots
Half arse ghost ring set up

Look how level they are.
Unfortunately was a one off. Was some glimmers of hope when shooting groups but nothing panned out, at some stage in the groups the flyers would open them up. I put that down to the gun and pellet.
Eventually the ring fell off, but it's a 24 hour cure epoxy so not suprised. Can was from just getting even spacing around the ring and hood.
Very curious to how a properly made one with marks on ghost ring would go now.

Thanks for all the reply’s guys.

Pauly, how do I get a trigger blade to fit onto a dovetail???
I’ll definatly look into Lukes, lite saber… 😂

Kruzer, that red dot base looks interesting, I might be able to do something with it. Let me give it some brain storming and I’ll get back to you. Thanks.

Nunga, that would be awesome if u can find something to 3D print.
Would be interesting to see what u can come up with, and I’d be 100% keen to try anything u come up with 👍🏻

Kruza, good effort on the ghost ring /blade attachment. That also gives me some ideas of playing around and modifying sights off another old springer 🤔

When I saw your picture of the drinks can I thought you had put the ghost ring onto your 97 and shot that group at 160meters… 😂😂😂

I would consider the air chief at 20m just about equiventle to the 97 at 160 lol.
Its an interesting. sight. Didn't have any blurring like with open sight. Glab you brought the subject up. I was totally unaware of them at all.

This might interest you Pete. Espially near the bootom about the disk insert.
The FP-AG series (the most commonly seen on airguns, sold as the "Beeman sport aperture" etc.) is actually their high design.

The FP-GR series, designed for 22 rimfires with low grooved receivers (and no barrel droop of course), is their low series. If you need a lower line of sight than the AG, that should fit the bill, but note the base is longer and may overhang the rear of the receiver. Like the AG series, the GR's are available with and without target knobs, the adjustable-width clamp design, etc.

A great trick for a "ghost ring" is to use one of these sights without an eye disk! The disk's mounting hole is a very efficient ghost ring.

Just google up Williams' online catalog for a view of all these.

Thanks Kruza.

Not sure if I’d agree about the air chief and the 97, but anyway 😂

Ghost rings are awesome. Especially if you want a clear sight picture, with out half your vision being obscured by the rear blade. They are very good for quick target acquisitions and for fast aiming with out having to think about it, because your eye and your brain will naturally line up the front sight dot (fiber optic pin) with the center of the circle of the ghost ring, although u can’t really see the ghost ring so u have a full sight picture of what’s going on I front of you, all u need to do is focus on the target.

I had a ghost ring and fiber optic pin for 12 years on my CZ458 Lott when I was a trails guide in big 5 wilderness areas and it was an excellent combination for very close dangerous game work.
Although bunnies and hares dont pose quite the same threat as elephants and buffaloes, the principles and the ease of use is exactly the same, and I’d love to get a nicely made ghost ring and fiber optic pin set up on my D54.
Would make my heart happy to hunt with that rifle with open sights 😉

Yes Nunga,
That is the sort of thing I’m looking for, just not a weaver/pic mount.
Because I have such a nice and repeatable cheek weld on the comb, which I would like to keep, the height of the ghost ring would be very important, and would need to probably have a bit of adjustment in it.
I’ll try find a pic of the one that brownells used to sell that simply attached (with a thumb screw) onto the 19mm rail of the CZ550 action. It was simple and perfect 👍🏻
