Drove up to Auckland today to pick up a rifle I bought a few months ago.
So excited to finally get her, but as usual, I’ve got no where to shoot her around here 😡
I really need to move out of town!
I’m the second owner, but she is still in pristine condition, only had about 20 rounds through her.
The comb is a little high for me to shoot open sights, but with a low mounted, low power scope it will be perfect!
Sexy little noise maker, isn’t it?

Walk quietly, but carry a big stick.

Hi Kiwi,
The make is a CZ, and the model is a 550. They are one of the best actions in the world, in my humble opinion.

A quick history of CZ’s 550 action, is that it was modeled off the previous CZ bullet proof action called the ZKK, which in turn was modeled off their previous action the VZ24. This was modeled off their first action they made in the 1920’s called the VZ98/22.
The 98 part comes directly from the M98 action, designed by the genius gunmaker Paul Mauser in the late 1800’s. The M98 action when added to the other parts that make up a rifle, is the rifle that has literally change and shaped the modern world that we live in today, and that is an incredible claim to have.

Can you think of anything in our modern day lives, or in history, that has been around for 120 years, worked through both world wars, shaped the free world as we know it today, and is still in production, in its many guises, today. A truely remarkable piece of history.

Anyway, the CZ550 is a legendary action with its controlled round feed, tough, rugged, and bullet proof dependability. It is the work horse of the Safari industry, of which I was a part of for many years.
I carried a CZ550, chambered for a .458Lott for many years during my walking trails through Africas big 5 territory .
I was heart broken when I had to sell my .458Lott before immigrating to NZ, so when I found this CZ550 chambered for a .375H&H, I had to have it.
A .375H&H is no where close to a .458Lott, but it still gives a decent bang 😉 and is arguably the most versatile cartridge on the planet, it can be used to hunt anything on Gods green earth.
A true legend in the hunting world.
Walk quietly, but carry a big stick.

Thanks Pete.  That's a stunning explanation and I now know a lot more about 'real' guns than I did 5 minutes ago!
