Hi guys,

I just about have the fishing thing down and I can ace the diving thing but the airgun thing needs some real help.....

I wanted something to play with and shoot a few possums on the place.
I got a Gamo silent stalker which I carried back from the states.
the idea of IGT appealed for sure, and the price was good.

The power is fine and when I shoot a possum in the nogin it just shuts up shop.
But..........
I never was that keen on reliability with the accuracy.
I had a 3-9x40 nikko sterling that I liked but I never seemed to stay in the zone for long.
I broke that and just mounted a stoeger
left and right is good but up and down is rubbish.
Get it going and it drops one 50mm low and then one under that.
I think the scope is bad.
I went back to open sights and much better groups but I can only shoot close with open.

I wonder if there is someone I can send this to who has a good scope they can fit and establish where I'm at?

I saw that 97 in the for sale and am tempted after this carry on.
The interesting thing is I am really into shooting my rifle and fire it daily, I now realize I warrent something of quality.

Can this Gamo be decent I wonder?

Cheers, Guys.

It's all fun and games and then somebody looses an eye.

First thing you should check is to make sure all your screws are tight that fit the stock to the gun. Lose screws will screw up your scope and make it look like your sights are out. Trust me on this one i had the exact same problem you had when i first got my gun. i thought it was crap, then i noticed each time i cocked the gun i could see the stock move only ever so slightly but that was enough to effect the way the gun shot. I stripped it down and put it all back together again and she is as good as gold now.

Thanks Nunga, will look today.........

I have already put tape on the scope mounts to check for slide.
screwed the windage on the scope way down in case it was adjusted to high and no longer had enough spring tension.
Returned it with the scope to the store and they spent time and declared it ok, so I must call them today again.
I figure it's not much if it's not the scope but running out of options.

Thanks again, I will report back.

While all this is going on possums and targets are getting away.
It's all fun and games and then somebody looses an eye.

Hi Nunga,

I am heading to Auckland on Fri and will collect a replacement scope.

I have a BKL 260 droop compensating mount coming from magair.

I also have a trigger coming.

Next week will be the start of big changes be they good or bad.

Gotta tighten everything as well

I guess I may as well pull it to bits and lube it while I'm in there?

I am then going to check to make sure I am doing the perfect artillary hold and  create some good groups at 30m.

If this fails I will hold it in the "baseball" grip by the barrel and spend some real cash!

I am using this as a learning tool and hope to get good results to match.

It's all fun and games and then somebody looses an eye.
