factory triggers in these spring rifles are not known for being good, the usual thing is to replace the trigger lever with a GTR trigger lever, which significantly improves the trigger.i have one such trigger fitted to a gamo 22cal shadow rifle.and its a pretty good trigger compared to factory triggers its a very significant improvement, but personally i dont like this trigger because it dosnt have much of a first stage and mine caught me out a few times before i got used to it,it certainly can be set very light and clean breaking but i like a little more movement in the first stage for hunting etc, lousy weather yesterday so decided to see what could do to significantly improve a spare shadow trigger i had, nothing essentually wrong with these factory triggers they are simple and reliable but suffer from very heavy rough trigger pulls etc, factory sear adjuster is next to useless as made plastic and the adjusting screw threads very easily strip making it useless, the sear is spring loaded and if adjuster working the sear engagment can be adjusted within safe limits, the hammer comes with a very heavy spring the sole purpose of this spring is to hold the trigger forward and off the sear this spring is way too strong and is the cause of the heavy trigger pull and the reason the factory trigger is heavy and unpredicable, solution to this is to make a new less powerfull trigger spring, one that just strong enuf to keep trigger of the sear and return to its forward position so safety can be engaged.this will give a nice light first stage until trigger hits the sear, let off can then be controlled by adjusting the sear engagement carefully, obviously sear engagement cant be adjusted if the plastic threads are stripped, this then requires making a new theaded block for the sear adjusting screw,i make these blocks from steel to be a snug fit inside the housing and hold in place with a cap screw and use a 3mm grub screw as the adjusting screw,i allso polish all working areas on sear, the end result is i can get a fully adjustable trigger with a soft predicable first stage and a very clean light breaking trigger from a factory trigger now thats in my opinion as good as a GTR trigger but with a very definate and predicable first stage pull, the final let off is just as good and clean breaking as the GTR trigger, and can be adjusted to be just as light as the GTR trigger from a reworked factory trigger,ok like the GTR its not a match trigger but its still a damned good trigger and a very significant improvement over the factory trigger, was good way to spend a wet miserable day.
 cheers mike

just finished tuning the reworked trigger, and am very pleased with it,its definatly as good as the GTR in final let off,and the light first stage suits me better, its very definatly a good trigger ,i know many find gamo springer triggers not the best but this proves they can be improved very significantly with very little time and effort,as variations of this trigger are used in many other springers, they can proberly be reworked simialler to the gamo as well and as good triggers make for better accuracy its definatly worth doing.

Nice work. One thing that bugs me about older Gamo is the heavy trigger - it certainly doesnt help consistency when you have to yank it to let it off! (I havent bothered trying any newer ones with CAT, SAT etc triggers)
The older ones are pretty well made, before they started throwing as much plastic as they could into them, so good to know it can be made to shoot a lot better, enjoy it!

hi mate, teah lot springers suffer from heavy triggers, excellent fully adjustable triggers is part what you pay for with top quality rifles, but most triggers can be significantly improved once its understood how they work and many triggers have trigger return springs far stronger than they actually need,if the sear has its own spring so operstes independant to the trigger, all the trigger spring does then is to hold trigger away from the sear and ensure the trigger allways returns forward on its own foreward away from the sear,so replacing trigger spring with a weaker spring thats strong enuf to hold trigger off sear and return it to its foreward position is a good place to start improving that trigger, the sear needs to hold piston in cocked position against a rather strong spring, polishing all the working engagement surfaces will then smooth up the sear release, and can then be improved further by changing the angles the piston and sear these two parts fit and engage with each other, but you have to know exactly what you are doing to mess with changing these angles, because the hardened surfaces can be comprimised if done wrong and the parts will either not engage properly or be too soft and wear away fairly quickly and become dangerous or fail completly, these parts can be rehardened if you know how to doso ,its better in most cases just to polish them smoother.
sear adjusters are better if independant from trigger in most these simple triggers because this keeps trigger independant from the sear, the only adjustment that should be on trigger is on that adjusts the first stage before the trigger can engage the sear to adjust the amount of travel in the first stage and then its only really working against the trigger spring pressure, the fist stage pull can be adjusted out of these triggers then essentually making it a single stage trigger if thats what you want without messing with sear engagement,if you get all these things right the result should be a very significanlt better trigger with a nice light clean let off,the secret to it is really all about understanding how these triggers work, these days i tend to think many manufacturers fit heavy triggers on purpose for libility reasons, its really a waste of time trying to improve most these triggers if you dont understand how they work, most of the adjustment in them is really just changing the amount of sear engagement and nothing else and dosnt resolve the heavy trigger spring issue and its very easy to end up with an unsafe trigger messing with sear engagement.
 cheers mike

you right jono i will enjoy this rifle, been 20 years since i have used a springer seriously, and wouldnt have the gamo if my mate hadnt given it to me,bassicaly started looking into it because was told he couldnt hit anything with it so gave up on it,turned out scope was stuffed, replaced scope and started shooting it and soon found out it was surprisingly very accurate dispite  its nasty trigger once got used to it,me being so used to the excellent triggers on my pcp rifles couldnt let that issuse stand without trying to sort the trigger out, been a while since messed with a springer trigger but knew how to sort these gamo triggers out and it now has a trigger thats damned near as good as a pcp,but not finished with this rifle yet, next jobs are to make a new allinium trigger guard  to replace factory plastic setup and fits into the stock inletting flush with the stock as factory guard sits well below the stock and just looks and feels plain ugly,i will then extend the trigger lever that too short anyway, surprisingly for fussy me i actually really like this rifle,i have allready removed the cocking safety bar as part the trigger rework,so i can now decock the rifle as well,i hate those trigger safety bars just cant see the point in them,am sure many rifles that end up will broken spring guides and springs are caused by owners discharging cocked rifles without a pellet to decock them and make them safe for storage etc, as these bars are attached to the trigger lever they cause unwanted drag on the trigger pull so removing them helps lighten trigger a little.
so i will be spending some time with this rifle from now on,going to try it out on feral chooks if the bloody rain stops today, the reworked trigger has definatly improved its allready good accuracy simply becacause its nice and clean breaking and predicable now,so none those stray missed shots was getting from the origional heavy trigger now, this is definatly going to be a very handy rifle now.
 cheers mike
