I saw this gem on Trademe this afternoon at a very attractive buy now price and couldn't resist grabbing it.  Looks to be in really tidy condition and will be subject to a tear-down and 'tuning' using all of the knowledge (LOLLOL) that I've gained recently from molesting my poor little MIC gun...

Hi Kiwi,
That looks interesting. What is it?
It’s nice to see a rifle with a WOODEN stock for a change 😂

I said I'd never buy another Gamo - but here we are!  It's an older model Expo-26 in .177.  I have no idea if it's going to be any good or not but for about the same price as the Air Chief I've got another 'project', but this time it's made in Spain and has a wooden stock Big smile

Nice 👍🏻
I’m a sucker for a wooden stock. Especially if it’s a thumb hole… just melts my heart!

Kiwi done anything to this yet? If so how is it going.
I've read the Spainish made ones are better quality.

Hi Kruza.  Yes it's been finished for a while now but being a typical Gamo, it shoots like crap so I didn't bother with a follow up.

A couple of pics below showing the archillies heel of these guns - the plastic breach assembly!  On this model it also plugs the end of the cylinder, held in place with a couple of solid press in dowels and sealed with an O-ring.  Soooo, the whole breach flexes! And of course, the barrel can close in a slightly different position each shot due to the plastic to plastic contact.

This means that a red dot or optical mounted on the cylinder is a complete waste of time, and even though my eyes are shot I can shoot better groups with the original open sights.

I stripped the whole thing back including removing the coloured varnish from the stock which I simply re coated with several coats of True Oil.  It looks a bit weird in the lighter timber colour but the finish is pretty good, better than when I received it.  I made up a new steel piston assembly to replace the crappy plastic one and fitted a new seal from Youngs and a spring from AliExpress.

Last week a colleague at our local club was bemused with the poor grouping of his later model IGT, but when I saw that it also had a plastic breech assembly I was able to give him my well informed 2 cents worth LOL

That's disappointing, I was hoping for a ray of light with the Spainish made ones.
I don't mind the lighter wood colour myself. Has a nice contrast with the rest.

Gamo .25 Shadow IGT model has a metal breech, purchased in 2019 ($460) perhaps in this model it is the calibre that determined the breech material.

I will have to dig about to find out more.

Check out under reviews, this version is pleasure to use.
