Looking at getting into this to start making my own slugs. Amazed that presses and dies for this cost more than my Dillon 750! Anyway, are any of you making your own slugs? Trying to track down a source of lead wire before heading down this route.

Why swaging? I'm looking to make my own 40 grainers :)

There's a chap called "SPYDA" making slugs down in the South Island.

Apparently they're great - a mate is currently trialing them in his FX Wildcat Mk3 .22 (with a special Huma Regulator fitted) and he's impressed!

You might like to talk with Spyda....

I tried making my own, they looked the part, but were not quite as accurate as the commercial ones. I think I just don't have to tooling to make a die accurately enough, also my press might not have been precise enough either.

I've visited Brian and bought some slugs from him. They were about as accurate as the H&N ones in my wildcat mk III. That is pretty good. The only downside is the hollowpoint is quite small, and I was getting more pass-throughs. NSA and Javelin have good expansion.

Nice, I saw his listings on Trademe. I'll reach out when he lists again.

Looking at the unit from GMI engineering - the "freedom press". You can customise the dies like Corbin.

Disappointed that the NZ dealer for the Javelin slugs have stopped stocking them, those have been my go to.

Thanks Mike, appreciate the offer!

I went with the GMI press/dies in the end. Also found some wire for swaging through DLM Wallace up in Auckland. $10 per kg and diameter to suit.
