the weight isnt much more than the leapers, but it is slightly heavier. As far as the brightness goes, it is only marginal, but the clarity of it and the accuracy and repeatablity in rangefinding far outweigh any negatives.
Unlike the leapers which seemed a bit "muddy" in and out of focus, the optisan snaps in/out very quickly, youre either in focus , or youre not, and the margin of error is very minimal in the ranges (maybe 1/4 yard @ 50yards)
In the closer ranges (8y-27y) its good enough that i could mark 1/2 y values, ive brought in measurements like 10 1/4 yards, double checked the rangefinding to get the same reading, then measured to the target manually, and found it to be accurate.
Definitely a step forward.
Only had one instance of lens flare, but i was facing almost directly into the sun.
What ive found helps alot is coated the inside of the sunshade with something non reflective and porous, a thin self adhesive foam (dark colour) or thin self adhesive carpet or felt ( once again in a dark colour)
