Many thanks and kind regards to
kruzaroad, KiwiTR6, mercs, Declan, RangerPete, Pauly5, Myson, and J-S. for all your valuable comments. I think at the present stage I will look very closely at the Weihrauch make of rifles (that is when I learn how to say it properly). As you say the quality is there. Must say the members on site "Kiwi Airgunners" are real enthusiasts and there is a host of information to glean from reading the posts. (getting square eyes, Haha) Great to be a member. Cheers. |

I think you are pretty close Pauly.
I’m not German, but I’ve always pronounced it as 3 syllabils “vi-ra-gh” I’ve been sitting here for 5 minutes trying to phonetically spell out the “gh” in English, but I can’t think of any English word that has the same sound 🤔. Although Afrikaans has strong Dutch origins, it also has some German roots, so I can pronounce Weihrauch correctly, I just can’t spell it phonetically in English 😡. In Afrikaans the prefix “ge” is used often denote past tens and it’s the same sound as “weihra-UCH” But it is not pronounced “Gee”, it is more like “gah”, a sound that comes from the back of your throat. My 2c worth. |
