Hi all, place for all your 2240 and 2250 posts, questions and stories.
These models have been around for years with a worldwide following and seems to turnover well when stores have them in stock. Your chance to let people know where to get started and what to pay and realistic performance. This is how it begins, if you are paying more than NZ$320 new then look again. The Rat Catcher Easily transported arriving in a 820 x 190 x 70mm cardboard box. Powered by CO2 Capsules which are readily available for around $2 to $2.50 each They are an energy source read the instructions and follow them, if instructions not your thing do not bother with CO2 powered devices. Inserting pellets, read instructions the rifles firing mechanism pierces the capsule so do not over tighten there is also a recommended lube application of a drop of pelgun or silicon oil on the tip of the capsule and this will be expended on later. They may be small but if abused they will bite. CO2 is stored as a liquid and releases at pressure. Never heat, and store with care. Easy set up especially if plinking with installed fixed sights, not sure if anyone finds the supplied scope usable, they have a certain look but finicky to sight in my opinion. A common upgrade is fitting a genuine Crosman steel breech $90 and if purchasing from Youngs Airgun Centre or other Agency it would be worth enquiring if it could be installed at the shop. Below, plastic breech removed (they work fine) steel breech and Crosman 4x32AO installed. This does not necessarily improve accuracy so if use is limited to back yard don't bother. Chronograph Results These will vary between summer and winter and over the usage of each CO2 capsule, mastering this is part of the skill required to obtain accuracy from your Crosman. There is advice out there that recommends 5 - 10 seconds between shots to allow metal temperatures to normalise as the CO2 discharge has a chilling affect. Baseline test November 2022 Ambient temperature 16 degrees

My NZ version of Crosman 2250B XL
18" barrel, steel breech, match trigger and Tasco 4x32AO scope. Lightweight for standing position and very pleased with accuracy.

Picture taken at initial fitting, parts and installation by a local engineer.
I am lucky to have had two modified also requires a new hammer to be made. Many options available from overseas including adjustable springs and guide. Simple spring change, alignment and polish of the original two piece system also gives great results. |

Definitely lighter tension, perhaps 1/2 but importantly a very predictable release.
Surfaces are cleaned up and tensions set so a very positive latch on the sear when set. I will go back and have a look both have several thousand pellets through them.
