As Strelok Pro is no longer available thanks to the sanctions imposed on Russia I thought I’d start a thread about ballistic apps that members use which are still available as downloads - as the information could be useful for airgunners just starting out in our sport.
The old faithful Chairgun is still available and has a good database. In more recent times I’ve tried the new Element Ballistics app. Although it is designed for their scopes and the data base of reticle and projectiles is limited there are good work arounds. My experience of the app is that it produces accurate firing solutions - for me anyway. |

I use chair gun off and on.
Usually just for fpe over distance. Can't beat shooting targets at distance for drop. |

Good subject.
Last week I looked at the Element app. I found it a little hard to use, but with the help of someone that was familiar with it I was able to get data out of it. Chairgun is really easy to use, and I will prefer to use it for when I need one. It is good to get the calculated aim points figured out so that it makes it quicker to verify in practise. |

I always struggle when it asks you to enter the G5 coefiecent, or even worst, yothey give you a selection of G's and u have to choose one and then your suppoesed to know what the hell they all are...?
And the other thing I never seem to get right is the scope height...??? Do you measure the front of the scope to the barrell? or center of cross hairs to barrel? What if you had to wind it all the way down, and that wasnt enough so you had to shim the scope too, do you take that into account? I tend to agree with Kruza, put up a target at 10,20,30 all the way out to as far as you want and start writing down the results.

Generally speaking - use either G1 or GA. GA was developed for airgun pellets which is the one I prefer.
The scope height is the measurement from the centre of the objective lens to the centre of the bore. E.g for a springer using verniers measure the diameter of the front/objective lens end of the scope ( including the body) and divide by two. Then measure the distance from the bottom of the objective lens case/body to the top of the compression tube. Then measure the distance from the top of the compression tube to the centre of the bore. Add the 3 measurements and you have the scope height. An alternative is that some people measure from the centre of the scope ring to the top of the compression tube. Not 100% accurate but for some people it’s close enough. There’s plenty of more detailed information on the web, but I hope this very rough and ready explanation helps. |
