Kiwi Ive just found that felt washer behind my seal too.

Totally stripped out the pivot bolt so had to drill through and use and extractor and finally got the mongrel out!

Also removed the barrel and the breach end is way off so will cut that section off and shorten it. Lathe is up and running at work so will stay late and have a play.

Just need to punch out the retaining pin beside the pivot hole then I used a punch and it came quite easily.

I've just machined my breech to 90° so looking much better

That looks nice. Will it effect the gap between comp tube and breech?

Well um....

Was just looking at the breech seal to notice that it is shaped to match the angle of the breech!! Which means the breech angles down 6° and then the barrel angled back up from the end of the breech up 3°.....!

So..... I'm going to keep machining and shimming and re engineering untill I get it right..!

Which me luck 😂

I ended up taking slightly more off than I should have so breech is slightly upwards at the moment without the seal in

How hard would it be to make a whole new breech block? Or should I say, is it worth doing that?

I should be able to shim something into it.

I've shortened the barrel and it's awesome to look down and have a straight barrel! Took a little off the front and refaced it and will recrown it tomorrow. Also need to do the recess for the seal

Bill, you're more game than I am! I'm going to leave the barrel in place and try to crown it by hold the breech block in my 4-jaw and support the other end in my fixed steady.  Will take a little bit of setting up and I'm not sure it'll work but I'll give it a go.

I finished my PTFE seal and made up a top hat (I think I've got it right this time?) so only the buttons to go. I've put a rubber washer under the seal to take the shock and hopefully protect the sharp leading edge I've formed.

Paul, this is the link to the case hardening powder I've just ordered > https://www.ebay.com/itm/225611131542

Thanks Kiwi, I'm so far down digging the hole I'm in I just having to plough on....

I do like the seal and top hat you've done..

Somewhere at work I have some spare polymer parts of different densities left over from a job I did ages ago. I'm going to attempt to make a new breech seal with these and possibly piston seal if they are wide enough.

Wow, it is pretty impressive seeing what you guys are all up to.
I wish I had the knowledge, and the tools to be able to make all of these things.
My “improvements” will probably just be to strip, clean, and if I’m lucky, reassemble 😂

Got a question… last time I shot it I still had a little bit of smoke comming out the barrel, but I’m 100% certain there is no oil or solvent left in the barrel. Could this be oil comming out of the compression tube/piston area?
When I get around to lubing and re assembling, is silicone grease any good as a lube for the piston?
Walk quietly, but carry a big stick.

Mine was very smokey and when I pulled it down it had been lubricated with what appeared to be used engine oil, it was very dark brown in colour.  I'll leave it to someone more knowledgeable to comment on the use of silicon grease.

It would works for the seal, but I don't think it's best for metal on metal. The big thing is that due to the pistons action it migrates forwad, which is what makes moly ideal as it really only needs a smearing. I can send you some moly in the post if you like? It goes such a long way as you don't use much.

Did you rinse out the compression tube area? I gave it a blast with brake cleaner then a good wipe with a rag and my smoke has now stopped after I put it back together.
