Well i got a new toy yesterday. Crosman Nitro Venom .177. This came with a Centerpoint (Crap) 4-9x32 scope. 1000 - 1200 fps on the box.
I put about 20 rounds through it and then put it on the shooting Chrony to see how it went. I must say i was surprised to see it was spitting RWS super dome 8.4gr out at 975fps. It was actually spitting out the Crosman pointed pelets at around 1004 fps I am not sure what weight those are but i got a tin of 500 to put through it run it in. They are crap pellets but good to run in the gun :) The overall look and feel of the gun is not the best. You can tell it is mas-produced and there are a lot of sharp corners on some of the metal parts and the wood stock could of been finished a bit better. There was also a bit of excessive oil around as well that needed to be cleaned. I have mounted the scope that came with it to test and to run the gun in a bit. atthe end of the day today i have put around 500 rounds though the gun and i am getting ok grouping now at 15 meters. I will be stripping it down and seeing how the piston moves later and hone the bore if needed as well as giving the piston a quick polish and i will install a new trigger as well. at that stage i will mount my new Hawke scope on it. And Yes Brett, you will probably know what i will be using this gun for once it has had a good work over and tune :) Next week i will update on the outcome :) Edited by Nunga - 23 Feb 2014 at 4:58pm |

Nothing wrong with with an NP in the right hands :)
As per any of the mass produced guns, the trigger upgrade turns them into a very comfortable rifle to shoot, and the groups will close up a bit more as well due to the more consistent let off of the trigger, and the lighter pull weight. A wise shooter once told me "if you cant group them at 10m, you wont do it at 25" Get those up close groups as small as you can, because it really translates further down range. Throw up some pics mate, it may be mass produced, butso was my crosman quest when it first began its life :)

I will upload some pictures next weekend. I plan on a picture thread with a detailed "how to" strip down the gun and check, and tune as needed. As well as the replacement trigger installation for those who are looking for knowledge in this area.

Nice, it's something I generally think I should do, right after I've finished the job :)

Well I have had a few problems with grouping with this gun. I have
replaced the trigger with the GRT blade but this did pretty much
nothing. Yes i know i said i would post a "how to" guide on stripping
down the gun and checking everything but i was not in a good mood by the
time i had found out that the replacement trigger did nothing so i
thought it best not to do one. I did do one on the trigger replacement
which i will upload later.
Anyway back to the story. I stripped down the gun and i found a crap load of oil over everything (which i knew it would because i smelt oil every time i shot the gun). The piston seal was in a real mess as well As you can see the seal is covered with oil and it really stinks! So i replaced the seal. cleaned all the oil out of the gun. polished the piston a bit and gave it a general clean up. The end results are really good. a quick test on the chrony showed me 8.4gr with a high of 920fps and a low of 915fps with 10 rounds through it so i am happy with the end results. The grouping is a lot better now as well. |
