having never hunted small game with a 12 fpe 22 cal airgun.just how effective is this fpe level for small game hunting?this is a bit of a loaded question from me,as its not bout rifles but a pistol and i have never owned nor hunted with any airgun that didnt produce 20or more fpe in 177/22 cals,as those who know me will be aware i have been working on a particular 22 cal pcp pistol for some time and previous to that my hunting pistol in22 cal produced 30 plus fpe,the pistol have been building is very capable of 30 fpe but during testing of this new pistol my hpa bottles needed filling,so began testing at 2000psi just out of curiousity,i settled on less than 2000psi at 100 bar approx 1450 psi once again out of curiosity, what actually happened amazed me,i eas getting 12 shots at 100 bar at 11,28/11,47 fpe for those 12 shots from an unregeed hpa system with excellent accurracy, this equats to only 19fps variation over 12 shots or approx 1.5 fps variation per shot over the 12 shot string, which is pretty good from a reged pcp gun,the gun is allso very accurate at this power level,so do i just leave it alone and stay with this 12 fpe power level or do i continue testing and find its full potentual??before i make that descision, i would like to hear from those who have hunting experience with 12 fpe 22 cal guns, tho i do prefere more power for hunting,i am not tho prepared to right off 12 fpe either, not at this very consistant performance level.i reaaly just want to know how effective 12 fpe is in 22 cal,any input would be appreciated.
 cheers mike

.177 for rabbits and .22 for possums is what i have found to work well. that is about all 12fpe will be able to take down, I hunt rabbits with the XT200 in .177 and it is very good. i use my .22 for possums. and my hatsan .25 for goats

I used to use a similar 12fpe type .22, for possums it really wasn't a good weapon. I did kill with it, but it had to be a 'perfect' shot. I now have a .25 Hatsan 'break barrel' that's above 20fpe. It's deadly on rabbits and rats, and far more 'definite' on a possum.

thanx for that was just curious as i can set the 22 pistol have built to 12 fpe as second power setting, other be at 24fpe,and have no problems with 24fpe for small, only 177 have is set at 22fpe with 16.4gr pellets and havnt used that on anything but magpies and mynas.but shot quite few rats many years ago with modded 22 co2 2240 pistol at 11 fpe but never tryed it on anything larger, know they use 12fpe 177/22 rifles in UK for rabbits etc,but they dont have much other choices eh!!think will up fpe in pistol to 14/15fpe for low power setting now.
 cheers mike
