Been reading the forum over the last couple weeks.

Just signed up and thought i'd say hi to everyone. I'm Brendon from Paraparaumu.

I've had a .22 air rifle for many years (Benjamin Trail NP XL), but never really had the chance to properly utilise it, but recently bought a small block of land and getting some good practice reducing the local rabbit population.

I want to get into 10m Air Pistol shooting, and surprised at the lack of clubs, also the lack of up to date website and information - it seems the majority of club websites are incredibly old and out of date.

Also incredibly hard to source a proper 10m competition air pistol - so currently waiting for import permit to be processed.

Any 10m Air Pistol enthusiasts around Kapiti way? - i see a bunch of you fellas are around Otaki and Palmy.

I know nothing about pistols and 10m target shooting.
But hunting rabbits is right up my alley.
Be totally keen to hear a few hunting escapades. What your rifle is like and how it preforms for you. Scope, pellets ammo. Hunting rigs interest me.

I'm just a backyard plinker - best shot was a rabbit at 45m (used rangefinder before taking shot), but i've also missed plenty much closer too!
Benjamin rifle is ok, very heavy, but the nitro piston is smooth and quiet, picatinny rail is awesome to prevent scope movement.
Used with a pretty average 3-9x40 Hawke scope (although it does have a pretty cool Mil-Dot red & green glowing reticle).
Zero'd at 16m, makes hitting anything 6-26m easy without adjusting scope and just using the reticle markings.

I do need to try a bunch of different pellets - current pellet (spike brand?) were just handed to me by the guy at hunting and fishing while i was in a rush. When zeroing rifle i struggled to get any sort of tight grouping, it's definitely not a Weihrauch!

But for now - it's catching rabbits better than the cat

Yep finding the right pellet makes a big difference. Espially for getting distance.
Hawk scopes are great! Both I've owned preformed faultless.
Ive found the best way for distance is just to set up targets. Zero. Then just shoot the distances you want to shoot to or your gun/ yourself are accurate too. Im currently zeroed 50m, do 80m on hares regularly and take it out to 100m in still nights. Below 20m i miss as much hit, because i haven't put the time in to find exactly where my aim points are under 20m.
Pretty rare i spring a critter under that or want to push in that close.
20 to 30m is 1.25 mildots hold under. 40m is .75 of a mildot hold under 50m zero. That leaves all hold over for ±50m. 3-9x40 left at 6xzoom for all distances. No ao. Formula that works for me.
If ya out there doing it, thats the winning formula at end if day. In my view. Regaurdless if ya get one a month or a hundred a day.

Currently diana ar8 103m, previous hw97 183m, sig asp20 85m, all springer or gas ram. Had tx200 that would have done it but I couldn't at that stage
