Hi.
I am from Timaru and would like to purchase an good quality airgun and would like to ask if there is an outlet for Air Arms TX 200 if they are sold in New Zealand and also and Weirauch HW97 in either calibre. By the way I am a sporting clays shooter and also run a sporting clays range at the Seadown Shooting complex and are just planning to build an airgun range at our facility. In plan to construct the airgun range for families and individuals with a range of self setting target designs from 10m out to 35m so will be looking for some inspiration on what can be done. Anyway I need to purchase my own air rifle soon so are on the lookout for something non-PCP. Hayden

Welcome. I got my tx and hw97 from airguns nz in Whangarei.
Was texting a mate in Ashburton last night and he mentioned he saw a hw at hunting and fishing chch a while back. So they could be worth a call. Clay shooting with an air rifle would have to be a go with your set up. Spinners and reactive targets have to be a go at the range. Paper targets are great for target shooters, sighting in, and pratice, but fun targets are always good. Espially if your going to open it to kids. Bigger reactive targets for beginner kids as well. Encourage them first, tune them later. Made a running target out of a cheap remote control car. Good for skills and fun. Page 98 of thread, you got to be out there to see. Both good rifles. I got a drop in spring tuning kit from tin bum tuning in england for hw97. It was a good move. Recommend that at some stage. Tx needed nothing. Awsome gun. Make sure you get an air rifle rated scope. Powder burner scopes tend to crap out. The gun chooses the pellet not you. Air rifles can be really fussy about what they shoot accurately. Great to have you onboard. Look forward to seeing what you end up with. Hearing how the range goes. Ask questions, put up articals, show off things with pics, join in on conversation and make yourself at home. Catch you up on the forum. 👍 |

Thank you for the reply.
I have a good mentor at my club who has an FX Classic PCP so I have a good tutor to help me out and I have shot his FX airgun so know what they can do when tuned. Know about optics too so I’ll cross that bridge too. Yes I can post how we go, and it would be great to gather up other plinkers and semi serious airgun users in the area. Being in the trade, and holding a dealers licence not too much is a problem but it’s good to do something that does not involve walking around the hills too much shooting clays. I’m interested in the UK experience and reviews which makes good viewing so much to learn. Thanks |

G day Hayden, welcome here.
That's exciting news to hear you're setting up a range for airguns. The Tx and 97k are good choices. Also consider any of the other Weihrauchs like the HW77, 98 and 95 for example. There were Walther LGU and LGV too, but don't seem to hear of them anymore. Spinner targets are always fun and satisfying to hit. There are the knockdown targets used in field target, but they need a string to reset. I did make a device that reset them via a remote control, so no strings needed, happy to share the design. HFT or FT is a popular sport in the UK and Europe and NZ used to have a following, but the new regs decimated it here and now there's only the one club in Auckland. I'm sure if you put the word out through here you might gain a few shooters too. Paul.

Welcome to the group. I know Andy Mayberry at Collector weapons who is based in Christchurch did have a HW97 and a TX200 so may be worth contacting him. See links below .... https://collectorweapons.co.nz/product/1880e3e6-c130-4d7f-8b59-f869288bef6d https://collectorweapons.co.nz/product/a4b89f52-aca6-4fb5-af11-01ce255852de Andy can be VERY slow to respond to email so if you are interested in either of these guns - or anything else he has available it's probably best to contact him on 021 0360093. Also I see that Ron Young in Auckland (https://www.youngsairgun.co.nz) has both the TX200 and HW97 listed as in stock.

Welcome Heyden Is this an indoor or outdoor range you are thinking of creating? Im assuming since you already have a range setup you are up to date with all the new rules and regulations especially in regarding to outdoor shooting. they have changed the rules lately to make things a pain in the backside for most. I would recommend Ron Young from youngs air guns. Fantastic guy and easy to get on with. im pretty sure he ships nation wide.

Welcome aboard!
I'd travel to Timaru if the air range was worth it. I've no experience at all with TX200's, but I have Kruzaroads HW97 and that is the gun that showed me how good an air rifle can be. So good, I bought another 2 Weihrauchs, from Andy at Collector Weapons. As has been stated, he types vveeeerrrryyyy slowly so don't expect an immediate response. Ron at Youngs Airgun Centre in Auckland is fantastic to deal with and well worth a phone call. He has Blackline and Beech stock HW97's in stock. As Kruzaroad has pointed out, if you do get an HW97, a Tin Bum Tuning kit will make it hum. Keep us posted on your proposed range. I'm sure there would be a car load of Canterbury folks keen to come to the opening day!

Its not my hw97 its yours. Apart from a spring kit and trigger polish there is nothing that mentioning my name with it does. Its a wiehrach hw97
Frankly after a spring breaking, seeing the spring in piston set up of the original, bluing wearing and the fact i think they are over hyped for what they are ( they are excellent shooters) Don't think they deserve the hype around them. Id go a tx before a 97 just on manufacturing quality alone. Don't regret either gun. Still i don't have either gun anymore either. The gun i would have settled with was the sig asp20 and the only reason that went was it was .177. that was a personal cal preference nothing to do with anything else. Both tx and hw97 are great guns. But neither gun was suited to me at the end of the day. |

Welcome. two very good rifles to choose from. The TX200 was the second air rifle I bought and ill (hopefully) never sell it. Many other rifles have come and gone since but the TX will stick around. They are beautifully made with fine Brit finishing, accurate, great trigger, and super easy to strip down to tune. Out of the box the piston is glided on polymer rings so a little smoother than the HW97, and some firmer spring guides improve them even more. Youngs airguns will ship to your local gun store, id suggest not using a hunting and fishing as theyll likely charge you again to uplift the rifle on arrival, bastards, so if you can use a smaller owner operated store that would be recommended. Collector Weapons does actually have a TX200 on the website - looks like a mkiii action in a mkii stock, its from a collection of hundreds of airguns, I find the late collector did not really shoot them much, and not stored in optimal condition either so may be worth stripping and servicing. They come up occasionally second hand and get snapped up pretty fast. The HW97 is a little more common and tend to go a little cheaper when they come up on trademe. If you are looking at the HW97 from Youngs, he did mention that new stock arriving soon will be higher price so now may be the best time to buy
