I have just ordered this: HELIX 4-16X44 FFP with the APR-1C MOA reticule. I found Ron Young has rings he thinks will be good on that scope. Sports match HO35c I think it was. I'll order those tomorrow.

Cheers. Didn't even realize that was there. Must look into the site more.
Have you decided on scope brand and model. No doubt sportmatch mounts. My mounts got sent today. Can't wait to have a rifle back in use. Teach to buy something that has had the iron sights removed. Stoked you got advice from Myson and didn't have to do a lot of guess work. What a forum is about. Nice one myson 👍 |

I did this. As for scopes, with some (a lot) of help from Myson, I have locked in on a scope and have found the rings I need also. I went with FFP. ![]() Edited by R0b0tMaf1a - 11 May 2026 at 6:28pm |

Sorry I haven't replied to the helpful messages regarding scopes etc. We've been a little busy with the orchard just having been picked, but it's settled down again now.
So before I start the hunt for new, does anyone have a good scope they are thinking about selling? I'm budgeting up to around 1k. |

https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/sports/hunting-shooting/air-guns-parts/air-rifles/listing/5922452298 This is great buy. I would have pushed buy now if I had some spare cash. I love older well used guns.

Same advice he gave me on sportmatch mounts.
Why the diana is scopeless. Waiting for sportmatch mounts. Then i noticed that wulf scope mounts are made by sportmatch. So im assuming they will be good quality too Never had the wulf scope mounts loosen on 1322, but thats not really a test. |

Hi RObO,
I've just sent you a Private Message (PM) with my phone number. Do call me if you need advice - there's a lot to discuss! For example: Finding your barrel's pellet preference, Artillery Hold, Follow Through, Leading your barrel, Wearing-in, Scope choice (preferred magnification, FFP/SFP, rating, focusing/parallax, etc), creating your ballistics chart, holdover/holdunder method, range-finders, wind effects, blah blah blah..... Lots of good stuff to learn over time! For now, your scope requirements - look at Side Focus Hawke or Element models for starters. They are all Air Rifle rated, good quality, great reticules, etc... I personally shoot at x16 magnification so l'd suggest you look for models that include that level at least... and always use Sportsmatch Rings to mount on your rifle. Learning how to shoot Air Rifles well is a great journey! Talk soon.... ![]() |

Dude how did you turn the word "this" into a hyper txt mark up link?
England has a 12 foot pound of energy law. Anything in air rifles over 12fpe at muzzle needs a fal. So they produce a lot of guns that produce less than 12fpe at muzzle. Thats a different spring size and tempering i guess. Go check out some sub 12fpe english sites. Those dudes can shoot. Theres also two different piston seal sizes. 25mm which you can find the dates and models on line. From what i read seems this was the perfect size for sub 12fpe rifles. Then they came out with 26mm piston. You can models and dates online for when things changed. What do you want out of your scope? Target shooting, birds in trees, stuck away in the bushes waiting for rabbits etc or from cover, first focal plane, good magnification, adjustable objective are all an advantage. You have time to adjust ao, the first focal plane scope, everything stays the same. Second focal plane when you adjust the zoom you have to recalculate mildot measurements. Walking the fields in open for hares and rabbits i prefure fixed focual plane and tend to stick to one magnification. You don't need excessive magnification over 100m. Allows you to aquire target faster. Would recommend mildots moa marks on retical. Makes hold over a breeze and allows approximation of distance if you know the critter size. I.e a hares head is about 10cm and its ears. 8cm rabbit for head. You can either do the math or put up targets at the distance your shooting at and the magnification and get a reading that way. Must be air rifle rated. In scopes: Look up first focal plane, ffp. Second focal plane Fix parralax Adjustable objective, ao. Zoom What objective lens sizes do for light enhancement. Check out the difference between target shooting scopes and hunting scopes. Check out the size of the dove tail grooves for scopes. Think most air rifles are 11mm but check it out, im going from memory Edited by kruzaroad - 06 May 2026 at 4:59pm |

An absolute beginner. I only had an unknown brand air rifle that was promptly taken off me when I was a kid when I sent a pellet flicking through the long grass to put the wind up dad while he was out in the paddock. I just watched this helpful vid to show me all the ins and outs of the thing. I have no idea about the high power thing though, I wasn't even aware there were different versions of this rifle. It is coming with 3 tins of H&N Field Target Trophy pellets I believe. I'm unsure is they are a good match for it. Any advice on a scope style I should be looking at? I might end up and a range if I can find one near me (or just shoot on my own property), and some of it will be dealing with Myna birds at different distances. Thanks for the tips and enthusiasm

Congratulations RObO! You have just bought the best, most accurate springer in the world today!
![]() Mercs' target-face (above) says it all! And what an excellent price too! Hopefully it's the high-power version (like mine). If it is - when you start to test for the best pellet in your particular barrel - do try the Air Arms Diabolo Field 8.4gr 4.52 headsize pellets. They are the best in my barrel and maybe the best for your's too? I'm not sure how much you know about airgunning but in case you're just starting out, the HW97KT is very hold sensitive and needs the Artillery Hold and Follow Through techniques to get best accuracy. There's heaps on Youtube to show you what to do. With the HW97KT you can shoot accurately out to 100yds (on a still day). Hence I zero mine at 50yds (in case you need an idea for zero distance). You're about to have years of fun with that rifle RObO! Well done.... a great choice! ![]() PS: My best shot with my HW97KT .177 was a blowfly on the target-face at 75yds!!!! Probably got lucky but I like to think it was due to the precision of this exceptional rifle! Enjoy! |

I notice the adjustable knob on the scope, i remember a vroup of us got some of them from the old forum nzairgunners.co.nz from a member Davey if i remember correctly, the seller might be from thar forum as those knobs are originally for use on fishing rods, I had them on every scope, Id put one on my hawke now if I could find one. Very nice rifle, good choice, its not a beginners gun, it a purpose built tack driver and will be awesome for targetz and hunting, sniping birds
