Hi all
I have a BSA Meteor mk3 made in 1972 It has a upwards bent barrel from a sudden barrel release I really want to fix this as I love the old BSAs that is until gamo turned them into sh*t. Any advise on how to fix the bend is much appreciated Photos to follow |

Hello and welcome to the forum. Have you tried aiming a little lower? :) But seriously there is not a lot you can do to get it back. How bent is it and is there only one bend? also what engineering tools do you have access to? I can tell you the best way to go about it but you will need some specialist tools like an Arbor press and a magnetic dial indicator and some V blocks or something like that

Hi, just yesterday I was talking to Myson from the forum who mentioned he knew someone who had successfully straightened a bent air gun barrel after a gunsmith telling him it would be very expensive to try and be unlikely to be a success. Be worth reaching out to him for more info. Other than that, it would be worth contacting Ron at Youngs Airgun Center (www.youngsairgun.co.nz) - he may have a spare barrel somewhere. I see he does have a Meteor MK1 that is missing a rear sight for $90 listed on the "Collectables" page of his website. You may be able to get a replacement barrel from either TW Chambers (https://twchambers.co.uk) or Airgun spares UK (https://www.airgunspares.com) Good luck - and welcome to the forum.

A quick fix for reducing image resolution is to create a collage, or crop the photo slightly. If you do that, then check the photo details to see if the resolution size drops below 406.
Or set camera on lower esolution when taking the photo.

Hi Airgun1,
Yeah, as EC says, I have a mate who's lovely old Weihrauch HW97 .177 was thrown out of a car during a robbery (!) and the barrel bent. ![]() No gunsmith would touch it because the risk of failure was too high. So he decided to have a go and fix it himself. He built a wooden frame that allowed the bent barrel to be hammered in the correct direction. He then used a heavy rubber hammer each day, bit by bit, and he hammered the barrel straight over 3 months! And he did it all by eye, no intricate measurements! I've shot that rifle since and it shoots beautifully! You'd never know it's history! So there's hope for you yet!!! But I'm sure Ron Young would give you far better advice than me!!!! Good luck! ![]() |
