Hey Everybody

Hi my name is Rob, been shooting rimfire for many many years and have only just got into air rifles.

I've just joined one of the local clubs and really appreciate all the advice. I now have an Air Arms TX200 MKIII .177 walnut which looks beautiful and feels great. Now I just need to see what this baby can do!

I'm going to give field target a go too because it sounds like a whole heap of fun, with the "ranging" and "clicking" etc.

Shooter1 on the other forum had a couple of Leapers scopes that are a good start for FT. Not sure if he's on this one.

Falcon, Leapers, Hawke, Bushnell, Burris all can be acceptable springer rated entry level scopes. You want a minimum of 20x power but 24+ is better. I prefer 35x as the sweet spot. Some like 50x or even 80x. Not worth it if you're just starting out.

Better to get a good entry level 24x scope (eg second-hand bushnell) than a rubbish 50x scope (eg ZOS).

My TX is HP so will need something strong. I'm looking to get something decent that I won't want to upgrade in a hurry.

I've currently got a Gamo 4x32 on it...I've only just bought the rifle and borrowed the scope from a friend just to get shooting. Have so far done really well shooting paper target at the clubs considering current optics!

My pockets are not deep enough for a march pinkMIST.

However, I was considering a Nikko Diamond and have seen that many are using these and Sightron SIII 10-50x60 at the WFT Champs. My concern is that my TX is pushing out 15.6fpe and the guys at the worlds are probably tuned to 12fpe??

Not sure if they will handle the recoil of mine.

I do like the Optisan viper 8-32x60 too...your thoughts?

youre welcome to have a look through mine, I havent regretted putting it on my TX, nice glass .

prior to the viper I was using a leapers 8-32x, so no change in magnification capabilities, but a move to better quality glass was certainly notable.

you could try a few things to help with white out, many different views on this. I used with good effect some thin upholstery carpet, the no backing stretchable kind, and glued that around the inside of the sunshade. This helped to stop light being reflected off the inside of the tube and onto the lens, worked for me.

sometimes rather than thinking outside of the square, you just need to get rid of the square altogether :)

The optisan has no issues with HP springers, but for what they cost I reckon theres other scopes that are well comparable, maybe better - if you look secondhand.

dropping the tx's power will give you a very enjoyable Springer to shoot, and reduce recoil. Changing parts inside will drop noise and vibration (spring guide, top hat, etc, in delrin ratger than metal - talk to Nunga)

Talk to people, ask around, you never know what bargains are lurking in the shadows :)

Nothing wrong with Hawke, and yes, optisan arent easy to come by in NZ :)

Id rate the sidewinder 30 above the leapers, but alot of it will come down to budget and personal preference.
Falcon T50 and T35 are good choices as well, theres a t50 for sake in Hamilton for $600 from memory......
