Greetings Jim48, welcome here.

Shows the benefits of a forum over social media in that the info is easily found and stored here.

I'm not familiar with these, so hopefully Nunga will help you out.

Regards
Paul.

Hey Nunga,

I think I need your help and expertise please!

I had to go out to a friends house tonight to dispatch a possum they caught in a live trap.
They don’t firearms so I go and sort out what ever they catch doing their back yard trapping.
I usually take one of my PCP’s, but tonight I thought I’d take a springer, just because I never get to use them much so why not?
I picked my Hatsan Airtack .25 which is the cheapest .25cal that Hatsan makes, and drove out to the property.
Took the cage off the fence, went to cock and load the Hatsan, broke the barrel, and there was nothing!!! No resistance at all, the barrel just about dropped down by its self 😳!
It engaged the manual safety, but didn't even cock/engage the sear of the trigger… just nothing 😳

It was working fine last time I shot it, so I don’t know what’s wrong with it now.
All I can think of is it must be a gas ram and its seals have gone???

Any chance you could teach me how to strip and service a gas ram?

Thanks,
Pete.

Just as a side thought pete, the lug that engages the piston to push it back, when you cock it hasn't either broken or gone under the piston?

Strip it down first and take the ram out and have a look to see whats going on. If it is the ram they are sealed units and you have a zero chance of fixing them. If the gas has leaked out then the seals are gone so getting it re gassed is not solve the problem. Best bet would be to go to Rons and get a replacement ram for it. It doesnt have to be a Hatsan ram the gamo or Crosman have the same stroke i think and fits. just take the old ram with you to make sure. The last time i got one off Ron cost $60.00 but that was a while ago

Ok thanks.
Will I need a sash clamp to strip it if there is no pressure in the ram?
Probably not I guess.
Will I need a sash clamp to put it back together once I have a new ram?

The gas rams only have like 5mm of preload on them and since the seals sound like they are gone you shouldnt need to put a sash clamp on. Having said that it might pay to use it just in case lol.

Definitely need it to put the new one in. they are super hard to compress and not like a spring.
