I reckon I need a pellet gauge gadget (.177). New tin, new batch number of H&N FTT. Normally shoot OK, but with the latest lot I'm now getting a few fliers and a different 'floof' as the gun fires. You can hear the difference in the shot, and you are rewarded with a 9, not the 10 you wanted. I do wash, dry lube, inspect skirt, and weigh pellets but this latest lot of H&N aren't doing me any good. The odd pellet just slips into the breech...and doesn't shoot 'right'. The pellets that take a wee thumb push to seat them all shoot OK. Any pellet gauge for sale on here please? Thanks.

Try a barrel clean before you spend money on a pellet guage. usually works for me when pellets start misbehaving.
Or maybe its just my rifle playing up for some attention ;-) |

If you have the tooling you could use a reeming tool for exact size.
There are just tins that sux. Ive had some huge variations in tins. Enough so that i wonder sometimes if they just do runs of mixed reject pellets into tins because its cheeper than remelting and recasting them and distribute them amongst cans of good pellets. Speculation only, on my behalf. Buy im guessing you got a bum tin or two. Use em for plinking or take them back. H&N FFT come in three sizes in .22 Hence my theory. Yet to find nz shop suppler who A: even knew this. B: even cared or would try to order in the tins of a specific size. I was after 5.53mm as those were the size that gave the tightest group and one of the sizes fft come in. |

I recently cleaned the barrel after shooting the last of my H&N FTT of a different Lot Number. Barrel could just need leading in again. I did just buy this... https://fentonshooting.co.uk/products/fenton-pellet-sizers-precision-cnc-made?variant=47553162543389 Bought the 4.53 size, stainless steel. Also bought a 3mm - 13mm tapered reamer from Ali. So I can have a play with both toys when they arrive. The tapered reamer will allow me to make a few variations in some alloy plate to use as a head size gauge.

Have you poked a pellet through the barrel and measured the final size it came out?

No. The 9015 has a choked barrel which will upset any measured size? I could poke a pellet 1/2 way through and then poke it back out again...but that's a PITA so I never bothered to. Yes, I'm getting lazy as I get older. I have noticed that the skirts on the FTT are way big (diameter) compared to other H&N pellets and/or other makes of pellets. JSB just fall into the breech.
