you may find slightly larger pellet head size works well if the pellet feels too free (sloppy) after the initial length.. something like 4.53 headsize ratehr than 4.52 may be enough. Or a thin skirted pellet like JSB should blow out into the rifling to engage regarding the choke, only was I can see to remove it is not exactly reversible - chop it off and recrown..

Following on from the link kruzaroad provided earlier,
https://youtu.be/5P_BiPrSQ_k?si=gpsw5XSZr1mo5i_8 I recently picked up an old Chinese 177 on TradeMe for $15 that looks to have the same lineage as shown in the pictures below ![]() This gun has a latch to open the barrel prior to cocking and is quite badly rusted in parts ![]() It does look very similar to the air chief ![]() There is adjustment for the trigger but the trigger itself is pretty horrible! ![]() Haven't done much with it yet - it is inconsistent on the chrono, between 370-420 fps but mostly around 395. Doesn't have rails to mount a scope so I will shoot some "gatherings" at 10m with the open sights and then want to strip it down, clean and degrease as it is dieseling. I want to get rid of the rust and rebuild it and see it it improves at all. Hope to refinish the stock too. Not sure how it will turn out but at $15 not expecting much!

That rifle and other cheapies has me wondering if the old Slavia designs were sold to the Chinese manufacturers.
They kinda look like the Slavias I recall as being quite common when BSA Meteors were the common half decent air rifle in NZ. As kids we wrote the Slavias off as inferior simply because they were less powerful than our Meteor but we knew nothing back then... |

Sold mine via a $1 reserve auction on Trademe for $15 ![]() Despite my best efforts it really was a piece of junk with no hope of ever redeeming itself.....

The barrel on the air chief is choked towards the end. You want me to drill the choke and see what happens?
Though it will be just that drill the choke out! No fancy finishing it. Did a bit of web searching and found this ![]() ![]() Unfortunately the name brings back no responce as even a word. Google reconned a misspelling of a russian brand or possibly Norinco china. Then i found this too which could be an updated model of that gun. ![]() Any names or numbers on it? |

Direct trigger sounds very very dodgy in itself but is likely just bad English...
I'm OK with Gamos but those rifles make Gamos seem like Sakos. |

I.ve got a sneaking feeling that the trigger adjustment is just a flasher home made version of the screw i put in the air chief to hold the sear closer to the release point. Drilled a hole right about there through the trigger guard to do it.

I cut the choke off the end of my barrel and re-crowned it but that made no difference at all. Mercs cut his barrel in half and grouping improved dramatically. He might chirp in with details.
