The gas rams only have like 5mm of preload on them and since the seals sound like they are gone you shouldnt need to put a sash clamp on. Having said that it might pay to use it just in case lol.

Definitely need it to put the new one in. they are super hard to compress and not like a spring.

Ok thanks.
Will I need a sash clamp to strip it if there is no pressure in the ram?
Probably not I guess.
Will I need a sash clamp to put it back together once I have a new ram?

Strip it down first and take the ram out and have a look to see whats going on. If it is the ram they are sealed units and you have a zero chance of fixing them. If the gas has leaked out then the seals are gone so getting it re gassed is not solve the problem. Best bet would be to go to Rons and get a replacement ram for it. It doesnt have to be a Hatsan ram the gamo or Crosman have the same stroke i think and fits. just take the old ram with you to make sure. The last time i got one off Ron cost $60.00 but that was a while ago

Just as a side thought pete, the lug that engages the piston to push it back, when you cock it hasn't either broken or gone under the piston?

Hey Nunga,

I think I need your help and expertise please!

I had to go out to a friends house tonight to dispatch a possum they caught in a live trap.
They don’t firearms so I go and sort out what ever they catch doing their back yard trapping.
I usually take one of my PCP’s, but tonight I thought I’d take a springer, just because I never get to use them much so why not?
I picked my Hatsan Airtack .25 which is the cheapest .25cal that Hatsan makes, and drove out to the property.
Took the cage off the fence, went to cock and load the Hatsan, broke the barrel, and there was nothing!!! No resistance at all, the barrel just about dropped down by its self 😳!
It engaged the manual safety, but didn't even cock/engage the sear of the trigger… just nothing 😳

It was working fine last time I shot it, so I don’t know what’s wrong with it now.
All I can think of is it must be a gas ram and its seals have gone???

Any chance you could teach me how to strip and service a gas ram?

Thanks,
Pete.

Greetings Jim48, welcome here.

Shows the benefits of a forum over social media in that the info is easily found and stored here.

I'm not familiar with these, so hopefully Nunga will help you out.

Regards
Paul.

Happy New Year from the UK.
I've ended up here after spending hours trawling the Internet for information/exploded diagram of an early Edgar Bros/Hatsan model 60 trigger mechanism pre Quattro design. The only info. I can find is in the excellent article by Nunga, tile Hatsan mods posted 27/03/2014. I have been given a Edgar Bros/ Hatsan model 60 that does not cock as the previous owner took it apart to replace the main spring and piston washer. Fortunately he didn't dismantle the whole trigger just removed the pin that goes through the top sear. He said when he removed the mechanism there was a washer on one side of the top sear and a small torsion spring the other side. It's this spring thats missing and I cannot find a replacement for it or a picture of it, let alone dimesions.
I've attached a few pictures of the trigger mechanism for clarity.
Here's hoping someone can help in solving the puzzle.
Regards to all,
Jim

yeah, I did notice that there is a funny sound coming from the gun when firing heavier pellets. almost sounds like air leaking from somewhere, maybe the breach seal or something. I do know i need the stock off you sooner rather than later as this plastic stock is almost fallen apart now. I might come for a drive this coming weekend and pick it up.

Finally got the ram to a high pressure.it is a lot harder to cock than before.the first shot through the crony with 31gr pellets came out 702fps second 690 that's up over 32 foot pounds so I'm happy with the results so far.

The super dooper gas ram pumper upper thing-a-me- giggy im making will pump normal air into the rams to increase the pressure. I am doing this because the air that you breathe has 78% nitrogen in it anyway and the rams are filled with 100% nitrogen to start with. so topping them up with normal air will not harm or affect them in any way as the ram will still have over 90% nitrogen in it anyway.

I plan to use a  old fridge compressor to pre-charge the pump (car gas strut) to around 3 - 400psi that way it will cut down the time needed to pump. there will be a one way valve to keep the adapter pressurized.

But Yes i am using the bigger gas strut as a way to push air into the ram :)

Man that's bad luck. Are you sure didn't shoot yourself in the calf?

So the gas ram pumper upper thing you're making, does it pump up the rams with a gas? therefore you must have a supply of that gas to pump into the rams you are adapting, and you are using the bigger car gas strut as a way to push the gas in?

Sorry I am just making sure I fully understand what you're doing. Very clever.
