Probably the tx, nice to have another look for another season lol,
That will of course free up the laminate one..... Something will have to go ( or have to be acquired 😊)

Well that's a nice wee slab of aged nz rimu :)
Thought I'd go all 'native' on it this time , she's pretty hard, and with the inletting coated in 2pot it should work quite nice. If not I'll open the inletting further and use a bedding compound in top of something like knead it or liquid steel :)

Nice piece of wood there. I bet it's hard. It will look great. Can't wait to see more of that grain exposed.

Ha
It's hard alright, this little start on a body line took about 3 hours, flattened 2 batteries on a drill, and destroyed a Hal round rasp :) kinda like sanding concrete with an a4 sheet of paper :)
But it's nice

You would split up my family would you Davey?

Brett, you could use the router bit with a radius to remove wood. Just slowly. Much easier if you're carefully.

True Paul, but a router is generally easier to do level cuts, and I'm after a more natural flow of curves , it's just time and effort.

Rollover cheekrest starting to shape up now :)

Did you glue a new bit onto that? the wood looks a different colour than the rest of the stock.

The whole block was a leftover from the cabby's at work , they'd had to laminate an edge top and bottom to get the width they needed, I was just lucky where it ended up, top of cheekrest and bottom of grip.
Not sure if it was done onsite, or prior to the length turning up
Can feel the difference between them when working it, the bulk of it is old, aged well, and hard as concrete, that bit on top is hard, but nowhere near what the rest is.
Seriously not looking forward to hand sanding it, that's gonna feel like going nowhere fast :)

Need to catch up nunga, so you can take over on your one......
