Put something up in the wanted section on this site. I see your in Auckland. Give youngs a call and see what they have. Could have a trade in or something. People seem to speak highly of him and he's been in businesses for years

Hi Ian,

Welcome to the forum.

There are many options for good guns, all depends on your needs, your expectations and your budget.
As Kruza said, Youngs is your best bet, probably the best air rifle shop in the country, and he is in your town.
He has lots of stock and is always turning over second hand guns. I'd have no problem recommending him.

MagAir is a guy called Alex, he sells out of a container in his garden, but he has a good selection of new and second hand rifles. His website is not the greatest or updated often, but he has a lot of rifles in stock and is help full. He is in Morrinsville, not far from me. He imports rifles and I have bought from him before and can recommend him.

Like most things in life, you get what you pay for, but if you want a quality gun that shoots nicely and you can pass on to your kids or grandkids one day, then you are looking at Weirauch, Airarms, or some of the big Dianas.
Some of the higher end Gamos will serve your needs, but they are not a high quality rifle, and their triggers are terrible.

Mynas at 40 is going to take a good rifle and lots of practise, but it can be done.
If you have any questions about rifles you find and like, just fire away.

Pete.
Walk quietly, but carry a big stick.

Cheers Pete.
Thanks for the info.

Any suggestions about a Diana 340N-TEC?
From what I can find online it sounds like it’s been discontinued….

Enjoy looking about and coming up with a solution for your needs.
Perfectly adequate budget for a pest control air rifle set.

If you are not walking about then the heavier under-lever rifles could well be of interest.
Check out a new Gamo CFX or CFR with scope at Bronco's Outdoors or Young's Airgun Centre.

Most shops will have trade-ins to move so bargains will come up.

Accuracy will win over power so do not discount the CO2 units for backyard work the Air Chief Rifles at $400 with a $300 scope will clear out all but the mentioned possum.

With a springer, look for lifetime warranty on your scope, ZeroTech are under $500.

Most used rifles remain serviceable with seals and springs readily available from agents or internet.

Good Luck, take us on your journey.

You might find a Cometa could be a good option. You could search expired listings on Trademe

Definitely approach Ron Young, I've been dealing with him for a little while now and have purchased several rifles and pistols from him.  He's a fountain of knowledge and couldn't be more helpful, I really can't rate him highly enough.  A real gentleman.

Avoid big stores like Hunting & Fishing, they'll try to stitch you into a Gamo which are pretty much universally regarded by the airgun community to be complete crap (some exceptions of course).

Problem is the 95 is right at my limit and I’d still need a scope etc.

How often do good Weihrauch’s come up second-hand?

I really like this but $$$:

Weihrauch is a good option as they are top end but have the range of models to cater for various needs.
HW95 is a great all rounder - mid power but not overpowered so still smooth. HW80 is a bit of a powerhouse and therefore harder to control. HW97 / 77 underlever are a great option - heavy guns but solid and sturdy. Great target guns and similar power to the hw95..
the HW90 is a cool gun, wouldn’t mind one myself - probably an older theoben one, I’ve heard the modern ones are a little temperamental… gas rams are smooth and give good power, you can get a spring gun to shoot just as smoothly though.

I do know of a HW97kT for sale, but it’s $900ish for the bare rifle. In Auckland.

For Diana you could possibly get a 340 N-tech for $700ish second hand and top it with an airgun scope, I believe Youngs Airguns has one on the wall second hand for $695. Been there a while you may be able to talk him down in price a touch if he can make a package deal for you
J S Airguns
Air Arms TX200('s)
Theoben Sirocco
HW77
FWB 300s
Webley Patriot
One or two others...

Too many..
