Thought I’d pop my head in here
Managed to get some practice with .22/5.56/7.62 calibre rifles many many years ago….and now a minor /myna pest control issue (see what I did there?) has me thinking an air rifle might be the more fun solution…… So, spending the holidays researching online and flicking through Trademe listings Ian

Welcome Ian,
An air rifle is certainly up to the task for that. We don't get Mynas here in Wgtn, but know what a pest they are. What's your budget? Also tghe airgun community might have guns available that aren't on Trademe. Look forward to seeing how this goes for you. Paul.

Got to be the way to go.
Dont stop at mynas. Way more fun for rabbits and such as well. 22lr is still positively boring at distances an air rifle is a challenge. What you looking at pcp or springer. Welcome aboard. |

G’day chaps!
My thoughts so far are as follows: - not interested in getting a Firearm’s Licence, so PCP’s are out - value accuracy (so when I miss it’s more likely to be me than the gun, and want to kill humanely) - value quality (don’t want something that’s going to degrade excessively over time) - budget has to be under $1,000 for everything…. bag, scope etc - max range required in the garden isn’t going to be more than 40m I’d say - undecided on calibre….if accuracy is the primary concern maybe 0.177? But then again may require to take out the odd possum every now and again…. …….all of which has led me to Weihrauchs or a Diana 🤷♂️

If you know anyone in Dunedin, this could well be worth bidding on.
There's a chance you could get if a grand. Awesome rifle. I imagine it will end around the grand mark. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/sports/hunting-shooting/air-guns-parts/air-rifles/listing/5073972034 |

That does indeed fit the bill!
Unfortunately, don’t know anyone in Dunedin 🤷♂️ Silly question, looking at the lack of new Waihrauch models for sale - do people import them privately and just pay the GST or is there some sort of catch I’m not aware of? (Been looking at the Krale website)

Nope, i got mine off airguns NZ.
Not sure he is still selling to public. I imagine youngs in auckland would have them. Delta mikes has them. Only thing is you wont get them under a grand more like 1200+. That's for rifle. Second hand market will prob be way to go. Ive seen sig asp20 going for around 700 dollar mark, second hand. dont show up that often. Excellent break barrel. maybe to powerful for 40m but snot a possum. There are other good air rifles around but I can only recommend the brands ive used. Tx200 .22 very heavy but awesome gun. Sig asp20 .177 fantastic gun. One of my favorites, but dont like .177 (personal thing gun was bloody fantastic) Weihrauch hw97 blackline.which i have now and is excellent Crossman 1322 which is my bird gun for out to 30m but have taken out a starling at 50m. Most loved gun i have. Not for possums though did get one at point blank and it dropped, but wouldn't consider it for that past about a few meters. The HW95 looks like the better choice - not sure the HW30S has enough power?
Problem is the 95 is right at my limit and I’d still need a scope etc. How often do good Weihrauch’s come up second-hand? I really like this but $$$:

I see them on trade me all the time ,but a price thing again.
See what others come up with. Lot more in the know people on site than me Also other gun options that they could put you onto. Ive got a old gamo scope that i keep for emergency if you end up pushing your budget limit. Nothing flash just a 4x no mildots. Its on a one piece mount. If it comes to having to drop gun quality to get a scope as well, ill send it up to you. It will do fine for the distances your looking at, but you will want to upgrade it. See what others come up first, but its there if you need it. Go gun quality first and formost. |
