Im not sure of their full history, but the owner passed away and word is they stopped manufacturing. They could have sold off to another factory or changed business name perhaps.. This one was the last New Old Stock scope on hand from Jim Maccari in USA. It was one he was keeping for himself but was happy to let it go so I got lucky

A bit of a rarity, Gerholdt + Reuss was a range of Airgun scopes, developed by Jim Maccari of Air Rifle Headquarters 'back in the day' (1980s / 90s) they were said to be put through their paces to ensure they were up to magnum air rifle standard - probably not the modern harsh super-rammed Hatsans or oversprung Gamos, but the likes of the HW80 etc.
Said to be made by Hakko, a specialist in top end Japanese made scopes and optic supplier to some high end German brands. Hakko closed its doors after its owner passed away so they are not being made anymore. I was looking around forums for a brand of retro scopes for older target rifles and classic air rifles and G+R popped up. Unlikely to find one I asked the man himself and I have now acquired this one. Its a long beast, very much like the old Japanese varmint scopes. In a retro gloss black finish! This is 1 of 6 that were produced as prototypes / samples and never sold, still new in its box with its plastic bag. Good magnification range of 5-20x50, front AO down to airgun ranges of 10m I havent mounted it but the glass looks very clear and crisp. I wont put it on a high power springer as it would never be able to be replaced with the same. |
