Totally. Bit of a disappointment really, as you say still way high energy to expand them. Pretty much any slug or pellet will expand at those lvls of power. Totally unnecessary in any pest removal of small game. Be great on goat and id smack a pig with that too.
American air gunners i guess, make it as powerful as you can.

A 40gr slug at around 1000fps is .22LR performance (subsonic). It’s what the competition bench rest shooters use in extreme bench rest comps in the states.
There are not many air rifles that can perform at those high powers and certainly not your average pest control bunnie gun 😂.
I can get my FX Wildcat cranked up to about 60FPE if I really squeeze as much as I can out of her, but I never feel comfortable sending that much horsepower at a bunnie in a little paddock knowing I’m always surrounded by neighbours, roads, houses, livestock etc. just dont have the space for high FPE where I shoot. Wish I did though.

Says in video when hunting.
He's at 970 fps and his mate is at a 1000fps.
Then around 970fps to 975fps they were stacking at a hundred yards
Then around 890fps for the point blank, which is the approx speed at 100 yards.
Then approx a 250 yard shot where the petals expanded but didn't separate.
Bc of approx of approx 0.245
Field testing has ave bc 0.244.

So they come 40.1gr and 42gr ( more common weight)
42gr slug fired at 970fpe = 87.77 fpe.
Retained velocity at 100 yards = 969.75fps
969.75fps with a 42gr = 87.73 fpe at target.
At 250 yards the retained velocity is 853.84fps
853.84fps with a 42gr slug = 68.01 fpe at target.
Holely f..k I didn't realise pcp had that sort of power.

So at 68.01 fpe wont expand fully.
All calculations based off the 970fps mentioned while hunting in video
Gr Weight check was internet search.
Pyramid air calculators.
Using retained velicity calculator for fps at the two distances.
Muzzle energy calculator used to get fpe at those distances from the new fps from that distance.

Don't think i stuffed up but double check and correct me if im wrong please.
So there's some ball park figures pete.
Frankly sounds like it would blow the base of slug through a rabbit/hare every time. Whack possums and topple goats.
Be useless for low powered expansion in small game.

Interesting slug. Should be deviating on small game.
Wish they would have done a more scientific review though, they have a fancy camera worth thousands of $$$ but can’t afford a chronograph…?
Wonder if we’ll ever see them in NZ?

This came up on one of my feeds.
Shows slow mo of impacts in ballistic gel and chicken legs.
Thought of you pete... Closer to the performance you hoping for in your testing.
Anyway could be of interest to pest controllers with pcp ( though it seems to work around 850fps.
