Should be able to set something up - but the rear sight is a simple piece of plastic with a slot cut in it.
![]() There is a screw on the side for windage adjustment ![]() If I can easily remove the rear sight blade I should be able to fabricate a replacment with a narrower but deeper slot. With a bit of testing I should be able to get a blade that is adjusted for a 6 yard range. If I keep the origonal unaltered I can swap it back if I want to try longer ranges. Will have to have a closer look at the gun. Edited by -Ec - 22 Oct 2025 at 8:47pm |

Ec could you bench rest the pistol, get an accurate poi
Then place another target under it that you actually aim at the correct distance for the off set.? Bloody ell paul, why is that weak. |

Good stuff Ec.
I had a quick go to see if I can work around a packed garage. I have just over 5m for comfortable range. I hadn't printed targets yet as so busy at work, but have these half arsed attempt at DIY splatter targets. The target was against a ply board and low powered pellet didn't even penetrate but you can see the impact. group size 58 mm. Hope to have targets printed and will participate properly this weekend. ![]() |

OK - so here's my first attempt ...
Gamo P900-IGT 177 Apolo .51 gram Double handed score 67 ![]() Here are close-ups of the two targets. ![]() ![]() While the Apolo pellets are not great the gun seems to like these the best of the 3 I had available. The other two are .54 gram JSB Match Diabolo Exact and 5.5 gram Rifle Spike field. This pistol has no elevation adjustment on the sight and shoots high at this range. I was aiming at the very botom ring of the targets and still ended up high. May need to try either making a new piece for the back sight, or cutting down the existing one. Sounds good guys. I'm happy with feet behind the line for me. Still have to see how my setup goes.
I shot competitvley in field target here. Certainly not to the level of excelence of others, but I got to enjoy the ceremony of each shot. I certainly miss it. |

Agree with -Ec From Civilian Marksmanship Programmehttps://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/2-2025-CMP-Air-Gun-Rulebook_v3final.pdf Both Feet including shoes behind the firing line. Good enough? If your safe range length is a little less than 6 yards, just post distance in notes, it is not worth shooting through doorways or the like. Safety first, fun second, sharing ideas, scores are well down the list. Any ex competition shooters - tell us your story.

Now come on Paul let's not get too serious pal.
I do 6 yards from fence post behind me, you do 6 meters from end of your barrel ok?

Had not really given it any thought ... FWIW I did a bit of practice earlier to see if I could get enough space in the garage and would have been to leading foot in my case.
As this is not a serious competition guess it comes down to what works for each person. Probably easiest to use a mark on the ground and leading foot like darts?

Is the 6 yds measured from muzzle or leading foot? (like in darts)

Well - the idea came for the UK air gun forum who run a monthly 6 yard challenge for air pistols . I first heard of this in this video on the TbT channel
https://youtu.be/R46CUb8pNOI?si=kglInTUr55SRcVX2 I took up Nick's challenge at the end of the video and even found a pistol like his on TradeMe that I tried to buy, but gave up when it got to over $180. So I ended up buying a new Gamo P900 which was the cheapest new air pistol I could find. The Gamo seems to shoot better than the one in the video - just! LOL I would need to clean out some of the junk in the shed to get 6m but can just get 6 yards at present - so for now will stick with that. With the winds we have had today it would be a challenge to even get on the paper at 6 yards outside! At the end of the day, it's more about a bit of banter and trying to get better with whatever you have to shoot with than a serious competition. As far as I'm concerned Kruza you can shoot with whatever you've got at a distance you feel challenging - nothing wrong with having a "custom" class if it gets a few more people involved.

Im happy to watch mercs.
Keen as to see what pistols get used and how they do. Does raise the question of can you use more than one pistol? Entering each in as a different entry. There a few pics I've seen of custom pistols that would be awsome to see used, as well as the pcp pistols. Being a fun comp it doesn't really seem like it an advantage to limit it to one. Also is this 6m or 6yards? Ive noticed both popping up in conversation. If its yards ill change the title. |

Hi Kruza, list updated.
Perhaps you can be the commentator and make sure we are receiving regular updates. Paper target prints have stuck to card well enough but as suggested some light card from warehouse stationary could also be a good option and work in most printers. |

I can take the stock off. But i dont have pistol grips. As mentioned above.
Once i lose shoulder and forearm support the trigger finger tends to pull the gun right. Its why my rifle is thumb hole these days. If i have the forearm and shoulder dealing with the cant and steadying, i can let the weight on trigger hand sit above where thumb wraps through the stock. The 1322 stock, I have altered the pistol grip with jb weld to my hands shape and have included ledges for the cut middle finger to take some of the wieght. Yes i could shoot left handed, if had grips, but would take more practice and pellets than im willing to put in for something im not really likey to take up. Rather be doing what i was just doing. Shooting the hw97 in winds, of that hold an average of 25 to 32km depending. Gusting up to 49kmh ( highest ive recorded) at a water filled can from 10 to 35m. Dont waste the wind people great day to play with windage. |

Can't you shoot two handed?
You can't take the stock off your 1322 pump is it? |

Im not sure why im on there mercs. I only have the 1322 with stock.
Gave pauly the pistol grips. Also don't have trigger or middle finger on shooting hand. Pistols aren't really an option for me. Wasn't joking on the" you might as well be wearing a blindfold section" If you want to put a section up for that, ill be happy to compete against the targets you guys shoot that don't make your grade. Probly still wont get anywhere. 👍 |
