Ooooo I love what you have done to that trigger.also that red dot set up is really awesome.
Has shimming the breech helped at all with groupings? As I'm counting on this to help with mine..... |

Last night I got stuck into the cylinder, drilled the transfer port out to 5.0mm and coned the entry using a couple of drills on the end of a long rod. Next task was to clean up the inside edges of all of the various openings including the modified port so any new gland I fit won't be gouged during assembly. For this I used a Noga de-burring tool where I could, some small round files (one curved for 2-stroke engine porting many years ago) and a chopstick with 400 wet & dry wrapped around it. I Left work early today and spent some more time on THIS project again this afternoon and tonight. I'd earlier grabbed some .008 steel shim material from the engineer's (had previously worked out this was what I needed) and cut a washer for the breech pivot to take out the slop. I'd also schemed a plan to improve the trigger by reducing its engagement. I threaded a brass cable ferrule out to 3.0mm to take a cap screw and silver soldered this to the trigger with a shorter and lighter spring found for the trigger return. Lastly, I cleaned up the piston, gland spring etc with brake clean and reassembled everything with moly grease on the sears and spring, Paslode oil on the gland and piston and my special oil on the breech components. After a few adjustments to the trigger stop holding the barrel as I tested it I was very happy with its performance. Did a few more tests holding the barrel and hitting the stock against the bench top and it held so on to the shooting! Unfortunately, not a lot of good news from here. The scope mount came loose, I knocked half a tin of JSB Exacts all over the floor and my chrony was giving me silly readings. After I got my s*%t together, I managed some good groups at 6m, but nothing wonderful at 10m and on checking, neither was really any better than when I initially mounted the red dot to the barrel. However, the trigger is super sweet to use and for Mercs - the 4.52 JSBs sit in the bore entry perfectly with no pressure required (those that didn't sustain skirt damage when I dropped them on the floor that is!). The breech pivot without the original slop is also nice and closure a lot move positive now that it's all well lubricated with my 'special' oil! Anyway, I'm going to call this Stage 1. I'll do some more shooting with it tomorrow to see if I can produce any groups worth showing and then it's coming to bits again. I have quite a bit more work planned with some Teflon sheet and rod having arrived today....   |

Nice work you guys, I haven't had a chance to get any further onto mine. Lathe is arriving at work this week so will look at shortening my barrel and straightening it all up.

Continuing to experiment currently with SigAir Venom 7.87 grain pellets. Poor breech finish so pellet does not always centre when inserted and wonder if initially some air loss. I would have thought it would all straighten up in the barrel but did find i could improve things with a little extra effort.  I used a Bic ballpoint to firmly insert pellet and results are worth further trials with a noticeable accuracy improvement.  When put to the test this evening no better than previous results at 47mm OD. Excluding the pellet in the 5 ring still only 34mm so some way to get a back yard friendly 25mm group, back to the drawing board.  Edited by mercs - 29 Aug 2023 at 8:21pm |

A tip from someone who had used all his allocated pic storage, if you have a art program, collage them together.
We can blown them up on screen to see them better. The grooves in my sears are bad. Maybe they will work for holding grease. |

 Had some time this afternoon so attacked the sear (s?). All new to me but what's to lose, the trigger can't be any worse than it already is. I started off on the spring rod using 1200 wet & dry lubed with motor oil and wrapped around a small flat file (first photo after a little work with the 1200, was all black originally). It appears to be case hardened as expected and the 1200 was making hard work of it. The visible scratches were quite deep, so I went to a coarser 600 grit and then 400 grit to try and cut out them out. I gave up with a couple of minor ones left, then went back to 1200 for a while and finished off with cotton wheel and paint cutting compound on the Dremel. Not perfect, but a hell of a lot better than it was. I then removed the trigger sear and repeated the process. It wasn't anywhere as bad and so took less work. Again not perfect but near enough. I'll coat them both with moly grease on assembly and try a spacer between the trigger stop and cylinder to reduce the ridiculous amount of travel it has. I've also found some weaker springs to try on the trigger return. Moving forward....     Edited by KiwiTR6 - 28 Aug 2023 at 6:46pm |

It's good to see a spring guide in there, but the abundance of what looks like used motor oil can't be good.
Great to see you all getting into it, I haven't had a chance to open mine up yet, let alone fire it. |

The only 'special' tools I've used so far have been a small carbide bit in my Dremel to remove most of the peening on the pivot bolt and then a small cutter in my mill to remove what was left of the outer edge. I'm no machinest and my gear is pretty old but I generally manage to get stuff done. The material must be case hardened, my cutter worked off when I put pressure on it initially so I then resorted to the Dremel and once I got through it with the carbide bit it seemed a lot softer - but the edge was still very hard. To remove the spring I used a socket and a sash clamp held in my vice and took it very carefully. That's pretty much it so far.

Managed to get one of those gamo Recoil Reducing Rails to use as a spacer to get the scope higher to clear the opening breech, but still not enough. So did some shoooting at 8m to test different pellets (10m open sights frustrates me too much, too much inconsistency)
Tried 5 different types of pellets, and did a control group using the JSB exacts. Pellets I tried were: Diabolo Match flat point. Hades 10,34gr, boxer pointed, air chief flat point 8.18gr, gamo 10X 7.56gr, and exact 8.44gr Exacts are still on top šš» The two fire stock screws have loosened about 1/8th of a turn and seem to have setteled there, so Iām leaving them there. Now to start this journey into the unknown and take the thing apart. One question, do I need any special tools to dismantle, and more importantly, to re assemble?
